Seeing as I couldn't get any help on my ethernet issue or figure it out myself, I decided to just redo the install process, since it wasn't a big deal. Now I have a much bigger problem. I followed the script and the steps exactly how I did previously, but now, as soon as the bootloader comes up and gets ready to "open" OSX, my monitor just goes black and loses signal (doesn't say check cable or anything, it just turns off.) I've tried this using my DSDT from the previous install, and also using no DSDT. Either way, I get as far as hearing the Snow Leopard introduction music, but no video at all. I've tried booting with the -v arch=i386 flag as well; basically everything I did before that seemed to work. Any obvious problems going on here? I am just frustrated because I am not doing anything different from my previous install a week ago. Thanks.

I've tried using the RC4 bootloader and the PC-EFI bootloader, both resulting in the same lack of video.

Your screen going black is due to unsupported GPU, what graphics cards are you using and did you install ATYinit to S/L/E, ATYinit is only 32 bit though.

Anyone seen DD around lately?

:P Yeah, I've been gone for a while. Sorry.

I really appreciate what all of you do in supporting the users here. Incredible amount of work. Kudos.

I've rewritten the bootloader part of the script to accept any bootloader in the "Bootloaders" directory with the appropriate naming convention and directory. Had to do this because of the numerous (unofficial) updates from different branches we are getting and keeping track of them all. Most of this was hard coded in the script, so that had to change. Hope to upload it soon.

Sorry we weren't able to reply to you regarding the ethernet issues.

As it stands in Snow Leopard, the networking kexts only appear to work when installed into the S/L/E directory (or /System in script), and not in /Extra. If there were installed into /System, then I might need to ask what networking kext was used? If it was a Apple-named kext (IONetworkingFamily.kext), then it would get overwritten by a software update and would need to be installed again.

As for the monitor issue, I suspect you'll need to add a EFI string for the nVidia 285. Try the script this way:

Select Modify plists, then select the boot plist your system is booting from.

If there is no "device-properties" key in the list, then you'll need to add one:

A) Add a key and argument

Type in the number corresponding to "device-properties" (toward bottom)

Now, you'll want to add the string for your card:

2) Graphics from nVidia

31) nVidia GeForce GTX 285

Confirm selection

reboot

Hope that makes sense and does the trick for you.

Hi everyone! I have a perfectly working hackintosh, however I am getting the Netflix 8152 error. I was using DD's script and booted the 32 bit kernel, using the ATY kext, and added an ethernet string using OSX86Tools. It was working fine then, however I wanted to startup using the 64 bit kernel. Once doing that I used NVInject and it still worked, however the graphics side of things didn't run as smoothly. I decided to use a GFX string for my card. However upon doing this Netflix no longer worked even though I still have the ethernet string from OSX86Tools still in my bootplist. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get around this. I want to use the 64 bit kernel as I use 64 bit software, and the GFX string as my graphics run smoother. My specs are as follows: Gigabyte UD5 mobo, i7 920, 6GB DDR3 memory, Nvidia 9800 GTX+ 1GB. My bootplist is as follows:

hey Crankygonzo,

I have the same netflix error as well, but I think it is related to smbios or somethign, not exactly sure what the problem is but i know its related to date... or dsdt.. something about UUID or something of that sort....

sorry I'm still researching on how to fix this problem.

Hmm, I just tried that and it doesn't seem to want to work still, screen just goes black after I boot into the drive. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense because I am reoding the installation procedure exactly how I did it previously.

I even see during the boot process the text "nVidia GeForce GTX285.." so I assume it definitely "recognizes" it. This is really frustrating though.

Try my second setup with only fakeSMC in Extra, link is in my signature or scroll a few posts up. I have the same graphics card as you do.

Hi CruiSar, well i tried your installation method with only fakesmc in extra and it works but the only problem is that i get a kernel panic (related to the iCal helper?) when i wake up from sleep :s...

Also I see that you have installed Snow Leopard on 2 RAID drives... how did you configure the boot loaders because I'm trying to get this configuration but i keep having problems with the bootloaders...

Thanks ;)

I just tried with iCal, woke up from sleep and the helper works fine, no KP's here...can you please post a log so I can take a look at it?

The Raid setup is from AQUAMAC's forum but since we are not allowed to post tutorials offsite, you will have to google it. I can help you if you have problems following the guide

I'll post the log tomorrow (it's now almost midnight here in Belgium ;)). I also looked at the guide and everything seems clear to me except for 1 thing: what if you want do to a clean installation of Macintosh on that RAID, how would I install kexts/drivers in that Chameleon setup? Do I just need to make a mkext file and put the kexts just in de extensions folder?

Hm I followed your guide and I believe I did everything right. When I go to boot, a rather lengthy list of "loaded HFS+ file...." lines comes up, lasting for a good minute, then it goes to the typical black screen with white text and then right before where it typically goes into OSX finally, my monitor quits and nothing happens (no welcome video audio at all). Is there an obvious thing I did wrong that you can point out? This is the way I did it:

1.) Downloaded the three files, renamed the correct one to "boot" and put them into the Chameleon_2.0_RC4 folder within DD's script.

2.) Moved all kexts besides fakesmc.kext to the _repository folder within Misc_patches

3.) Moved the kexts in the _ATA folder to the _repository folder (Question: when you say "_repository" folder in this step, are you referring to the same one in the Misc_patches, or the _repository folder in the actual _ATA folder, or does it not really matter?)

4.) Installed the Chameleon 2.0 RC4 bootloader via DD's script

5.) Installed 10.6 via DD's script

6.) Installed the kexts via DD's script

7.) Copied and placed the EXT_DSDT to the /Extra folder on the drive

8.) Moved fakesmc.kext to /Extra and RealTek to S/L/E

9.) Turned off drive (it is hooked up to my iMac via an external enclosure) and popped it into my PC rig

10.) Booted, checked BIOS to make sure I had AHCI enabled

11.) Waited for the boot screen (see above post; lengthy list of "files loaded" and then blank monitor with no response).

I really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Hi Thomas,

I am guessing there is something you did wrong, the steps you outlined are 100% right and I would like to say that the kexts should be moved to their respective _repository Folders but it doesnt matter if you know where you have moved them.

You dont need to do step 8 as this is the same as step 6. I am baffled by the error you are getting and I can only think of two things that causes this.

1. Did you install from Leopard or snow Leopard?

2. Did you place the bootloader files in the right folder?

I will suggest you build caches upon first boot, just boot into single user mode and type buildcache at the command prompt

There is a slight error on my part. The modded bootloader deals with some of the missing kexts, I think the original bootloader was installed and not the modded one.

The three files should be actually placed in this folder ~extra/Bootloaders/Chameleon_2.0_RC4/i386 to replace the original RC4 files.

If you didnt do this then its my mistake and I apologise for that, updating the guide with the right path now. Try again and let me know what happens.

Regards

Charles

It is plainly simple, just create your raid and do your fresh installation, install kexts and DSDT etc the way you normally do. When done just follow the latter part of the guide to copy the /Extra folder + Mac Kernel to the 2 Efi partitions created by the RAID.

I think the reason why you clone an existing working install is just to be 100% sure the system will work.

Ah yes, I have booted in SL successfully. I just need to get my ethernet working. Ethernet card (onboard) isn't recognized. When I got into SL for the first time, a message came up saying:

System extension could not be used

The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/Realtek1000SL.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.

I assume I have it in the wrong place/did it wrong. Gonna see what I can figure out. Sorry if these are stupid mistakes, but like I mentioned before, I am relatively new to this kind of computer work ha.

Congrats, ThomasRolinger.

The system extension error is there because file permissions are not correct.

Open Terminal and do the following:

sudo -s
(enter password)
chmod -R 755 "/Volumes/YOUR_BOOT_DRIVE/System/Library/Extensions/Realtek1000SL.kext"
chown -R root:wheel "/Volumes/YOUR_BOOT_DRIVE/System/Library/Extensions/Realtek1000SL.kext"

Toggle GraphicsEnabler key to NO when using an EFI string. Both together can give strange results.

tried toggling the graphics enabler to no but still a no go on the netflix error....

I just followed this guide and everything was working perfectly until I updated the software. After that it won't boot anymore the bootloader loads and then the screen goes blank and stays that way. I have no idea what is wrong. Any suggestions??

I see some error about fakesmc when it loads but nothing else

Allright, so I am installing Snow Leopard on the RAID volume now. The reason why I can't do a simple copy of my existing install is because it has 800 GB of Data on it and I don't want to wait 7 hours and then find out a raid install doesn't work :thumbsup_anim:'.

So what you say what I need to do is copy the boot files AND the extra folder to every Boot_OSX partition? So I would need to mount it first and then copy the extra folder to it?

Yes you need to copy the boot file, Extra folder plus the mac kernel to the 2 efi partitions. Just follow the guide on Aqua macs forum

I used the guide and everything works, but there is still one problem...

When I boot into Chameleon, there is a countdown to boot into my RAID, so far so good ;). But when I press a button to go into the menu and select manually, the RAID drive is gone from the menu. So I can only boot into windows or linux, the mac drive just doesn't show up in the menu :s. Is there a way to fix this?

(Srry if I have so many questions and problems, this is the first time that I do a RAID :P).

The problem is that there aren't any errors it just loads and then goes black. While it is loading the only thing I notice different is that fakesmc has that error.

Could my bios version have something to do with this? Or maybe because I have NTFS drives on my computer? I just don't understand why it works fine in 10.6.0 but not 10.6.2.

I've even tried installing using other methods like Kakewalk. Still same problem after update.

Does Line in/Mic work on anyone's install on this mobo? I'm using VoodooHDA.kext that CruiSAr had in his post and my Line in/Mic is not working (first time noticing it doesn't this past wekeend). The newer version of VoodooHDA.kext didn't help either.

I used the guide and everything works, but there is still one problem...

I have no idea why this is happening, never encountered it, what bootLoader are you using?

I cant really help if I dont know what is causing the problem, are you using sleep enabler? If yes then make sure you got the right version as the 10.6 one doesnt work in 10.6.2
