I have compiled everything you need to install Snow Leopard retail / gm into one .zip file, minus the actual DVD / image. This install assumes you have replaced the OG wi-fi card to use Leopard.

1. Make sure you have one free partition or drive available. Use disk utility to Erase the partition as GUID (haven't tried MBR).

2. Open the SL DVD or image and press CMD + Shift + G. In the field that pops up type “Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/" without the quotes and hit enter. Run OSInstall.mpkg (not the .pkg file). Choose the drive or partition you erased to install on. Select customize and uncheck everything the essential package at the top. Continue to install. This will take about 15 to 20 minutes. DO NOT REBOOT!

3. Run ShowAllFiles. Install Chameleon_v1012.pkg you current Leopard installation drive. Delete the file "boot" from the root of the Leopard drive and copy the modified "boot" file to the same location.

4. Copy all the .kext files to the SL /System/Library/Extensions/ folder

5. Run the DSDT Patcher application. Choose Snow on the right and Darwin / Mac OS X on the left. Don't change anything else. Click the Run button.

6. Copy com.apple.boot.plist and SMBios.plist and put it in the /Extra folder on the Snow drive or partition. I put the files in the /Extra folder on the Leopard drive too just in case. I also copied the com.apple.boot.plist to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration as well. Not sure it's necessary.

Reboot and choose the Snow partition and use -v -f

Once you get into Snow rebuild permission using the included tool. You may need to plug in a KB and Mouse for the first boot. If you don't have them, boot into single user mode on the SL driver and use this command below.

/sbin/fsck -fy

/sbin/mnt -uw /

kextcache -v 1 -t -m

/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/

Here is file. If anyone has questions I'll be checking back from time to time.

I would love to install sl directly to a usb drive just so i could run it from there. but my only issue is that my computer uses an amd processor and im not sure if anybody has come out with a way to boot sl on an amd yet... i can make a partition if i need to but i figured since the full os is only like a gig and a half that i would put it on a thumb driive... I just dont have time to look through thousands of posts and forums to get an answer, can anyone help me with this? please.

AMD Installation files for Snow Leopard. Backup and replace your snow kernel with the one in this file. I take no credit for these files. I haven't even tested them.

Just thought I'd add that this is the only good guide I've found for installing 10.6 on the u100, especially considering that msiwind.net is STILL down. I followed these instructions to the letter and then updated 10.6.1, reinstalled the kexts and have been golden for several weeks now.

My one and only concern is that we're using an older version of Chameleon for this install. I'd like to upgrade to the latest release, but I'm not sure how to do that or if it's possible. A guide on that would be nice. Also perhaps a guide on dual booting Windows might be cool. I'm not sure how to do the version of Chameleon we're using.

Thanks for the guide!

Well, I tried upgrading my Chameleon install myself and just replaced the boot file in the root of my snow leopard drive and Tah dah! it worked. I'm surprised it was that easy.

Thank you very much for this guide. I'll try it as soon as I have enough time.

Also, do you recommend me any half height Mini PCI-Ex Wifi card for my MSI Wind U123 as the standard Realtek does not work properly on SL.

Bye and thanks.

I tried this guide just now - I get a kernel panic when I reboot even if I use -v -f. I tried Boot132 and then Chameleon 2.0 RC3.

The closest I've gotten is with replacing the mach_kernel with the one from iDeneb v1.5.1 and fiddling with com.apple.boot.plist.

Any suggestions for how to get SL to boot?

-Will
