snyder9
I seem to have this problem in both Leopard and Snow Leopard. The same usb dongle gives me the full bandwidth (~ 3.60Mbps) in windows but on OS X, I can only get around 1.20Mbps. I've verified the speeds through various speed checkers online. Sometimes, I do see the true speed but that's usually for a little while after the usb drivers are initialized. Thereafter, it defaults to the throttled speed. I can't for the life of me figure out what causes this. I've messed around with all the advanced settings in the Ralink wireless utility to no avail. snyder9
Ok, so I managed to isolate the problem. My internet connection speed is reduced as soon as a vista system joins the network. There seems to be some conflict over the wireless network between Leopard/Snow Leopard and Vista. Once the vista machine leaves the network, I'm back to full internet speed on Mac. I tried manually assigning LAN IPs on both machines but the problem still persists.
