a7mc
I've been trying to get a SL install working for the past 48 hours on my Asus P5E (no other letters... just P5E). I just cannot get it to boot after installing. It installs fine, I follow all the steps in the guides out there (tried about 6 different ones so far, all fairly similar). Then I reboot, boot into SL with -x32 -v (64bit causes kernel panic) and it starts to load... then stops at acpi_smc_platformplugin with a "timed out" message and goes nowhere. I've tried every combination of DSDT, fakesmc and dsmos there is... it just won't go. So... I'm guessing my motherboard is having compatibility issues. I wouldn't mind getting a new board if it means a working SL install, but I do have specific requirements as this is a video editing rig. What I need in a MB: - 4 (or more) working SATA ports - at least 2 Firewire ports - 4 memory banks for DDR2 SDram - Support for Q9300 (2.5Ghz Core2Quad) CPU Any suggestions? Thanks. Just for your reference, I would suggest GA-EP43-DS3R. It meets all your requirements. I have this board with 9800GT, gfx, audio and network all working in both 32/64-bit. Beside those basic kexts (fakesmc.kext, ...) only extra 1 kext is added to make ALC888 work.
