Hi,

I would like to install Mac OSX Leopard on my computer, unfortunately after several attempts to install different version, it never worked.

I would like to know the "type of patch" which will work with my computer (Ex : Leo4All, iAtkos etc...) as well as the version of them (for example with Iatkos, there are 7 versions)

Thanks a lot, and sorry for my bad english, I hope you could understood me :P

My computer :

Motherboard : Asus P5N32 E-SLI (chipset 680i SLI)

Graphics card : Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 640mo

Processor : Intel E6750

Hard drive : Seagate 7200.10 500 Go (SATA2) - I have an IDE (if "still waiting for root device" error is coming in :hysterical: )

Hi Michael Spoli,

Yes, I had searched before I asked this, and I found this thread, but I still have a question.

Recently, I donwload Iaktos v7, and I guess this is leopard. I thought it was completly different from Uphuck (from the tutorial you gave to me :) ) but here is what I see :

http://www.uphuck.com/

In the distributions page, you can see that Iatkos and Uphuck are the same, but Iatkos is the 10.5.x version and not 10.4.x .

I can also believe that Iatkos is OK with my motherboard, since Uphuck is.

But I had downloaded Iatkos v7 and when I try to install it, I had a "still waiting for root device error", i searched, and I had saw on the osx86 wiki that I can launch the installation with a IDE hard drive and install it on my Sata hard drive, but my IDE does not change anything ...

Thanks if you can help me, and sorry again for my bad english :D

Bump :(

Check out my Pre-Series 7 nForce thread.......and my blog too....... :P

Hi verdant,

Thanks a lot for your answer, I think there is in your thread what I need, but I'm french, so I can speak english a bit, but long post like that where you have to understand if you want to do it good, this is difficult for me :/

I know this is maybe too much, but if you could just tell me what version will work good with my config, it will be great !

From what I've understand, I have a 680i, but I don't know exactly what I have to install :/

I'm sorry again, for what I'm asking and for my bad english, but thanks a lot !

PS : I know there is a french forum, but they aren't many, so I thought it was better to go here -_-

Mmmmhhh, I search and I finally could understand this :

If it just says "Still waiting for root device" it is your SATA HDD, is not recognized due to missing DEV ICE id or incompatibility as the SATA DVD drive. Fixing this involves two installations and some editing, no direct solution unless you inject edited nforceata driver to the DVD.

But I don't really understant what I have to do to solve this problem ;)

Thanks again :D

Follow my iPC 10.5.6 install guide in my blog using iPC 10.5.6 Final v1.1......

In the "Customize" menu, select as follows:

iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System (installed by default with AppleDecrypt.kext and Disabler.kext)

Language Translations – Choose French

iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3

Kernels - 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel

Drivers - Video Drivers – None .....we will install later

Drivers - Chipset Drivers - AppleNForceATATest nForce Drivers

Drivers - Audio Drivers - None .....we will install later

Drivers - Ethernet Drivers - None .....we will install later

Drivers - USB Drivers - Patched USB Drivers

Fixes and Patches - Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5 (must be installed if Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel is installed)

Fixes and Patches - AppleSMBIOS Patch - AppleSMBIOS-27 Rev3 Mac Pro

Applications - Optional but all selected except Marvin's AMD Utility

6. Double check "Customize" choices, click Done, then in Install Summary window, click "Install". When install begins, choose to (or not) skip the DVD verify process.

7. When all processes are killed and DVD drive activity stops and the re-boot "beep" sounds, remove the DVD and boot from the HDD by pressing F8 at boot-up to bring up the PC BIOS "Boot Menu", then selecting the HDD and pressing Enter.

Wow, thank you, for me it's late, so I will do it later, but I have understant what I have to do :)

You were very helpful, thanks to you and Michael Spoli !

Have a nice day, I will keep you informed :(

Thanks again !

Initially when installing OS X DO NOT choose a video, network and audio driver option in the Installer Customize menu.......focus on getting the basic OS X system running first.......

My mantra to help newbies is:

Begin with correct BIOS settings; use USB keyboard & USB mouse to avoid PS/2 issues; check on PATA before you check on SATA; HDD MBR partition and format, unless you have good reason to use GPT; boot OS X DVD with -v cpus=1 maxmem=2048, unless you know better; initially choose no video, network and audio kext for easy path to OS X......

So, start by reading post #1 in my Pre-Series 7 thread and sorting out the BIOS settings for your MOBO.....

Also, if you have a IDE DVDRW then set its jumper position to Master and connect to end of 80-wire IDE cable......it is less problematic than SATA DVDRW (as some cannot use SATA DVDRW for burning diks under OS X, as well as not being bootable with "still waiting for root device" error message....)

If you want to use iATKOSv7 then in Customize menu choose

iATKOS Main system.

Bootloader: Chameleon v2

/Extra directory

DSDT (Only needed if you have to use cpus=1 to boot the OS X install DVD)

Decrypters: Appledecrypt

Kernels: 9.7.0 Voodoo kernel.

Disabler

OHR

System: SATA/IDE drivers: nForce SATA/IDE

USB

NTFS-3G (for NTFS read/write by OS X)

Languages (French)

Post-Install Actions

But 10.5.7 may cause sleep issues with your MOBO chipset with the Voodoo kernel.....they presently are doing so on my 650i chipset MOBO......

Finally I've done it. 6 months ago I tried to install kalyway 10.5.2 o, my PC, but it doesn't work (I had a infinite loop in the end of the installation...), but I tried again and it work.

I don't have any drivers, do I have to install them, I will follow your post ;)

Thanks ;)

Ok, I have install it one more time but with all the driver, and it perfectly work, I've got a good resolution, usb driver, motherboard driver etc...

But the ethernet driver does not works :/

I installed them, but when I plugged in my ethernet cable, it says I have not plugged in this one :/

This is clearly a driver problem, they are wrong, but I don't know where I can got good drivers :)

Thanks :)

PS : I do not try the sound, but it might be good :)

See post #1 in this thread [i.e. my Pre-Series 7 thread] for kernel update to Voodoo 9.5.0 and AppleNforceATA and nForceLAN 0.62.13n kext installation...... ;)

Thanks verdant,

all is working very well, the sound, ethernet, USB devices etc...

But ... (unfortunatly) i've got a new problem, sometimes my computer freeze, but this is not really a freeze. I was writing this message on this forum when it freezes (it was not the first time, my computer had froze before I install anything (just the beggining drivers)). So I could not move my mouse or write anything, BUT the indicator which show me where I will write the next word was OK. I guess the OS do not freeze, but this is as if I plugged-off my keyboard and my mouse.

An other thing, I waited and when my screen shutdown, I open the DVD player, i plugged in a USB key, but it doesn't move anything, my screen was already shutdown ...

I don't know if you can (again :D ) help me, thank you again for what you've done before, and sorry for my bad english, I think i have made a lot of mitstake :)

In System Profiler > USB, check that the High Speed Bus is showing.....then check that your kernel version and System.kext versions match......for the kernel in Terminal: uname -a and for the System.kext > Show Package Contents > Info.plist.....

They should match for full USB functionality......if they are matched, then see here:

If USB sometimes works, sometimes no then it is the same problem.

To solve it, download my new IOPCIFamily v2.6.1 (from my signature). It may correct such problems!

When I type uname -a in the terminal, i've got this :

Darwin fhurax-fhurieus-mac-pro.local 9.5.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.5.0: Sat Dec 6 19:39:54 IST 2008; Voodoo; Release 1.0 :xnu-1228.7.58/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386 i386

And here is my info.plist :

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

I had downloaded IOPCIFamily v2.6.1 but it doesn't change anything :)

When I go to System Profiler > USB, my USB key is in high speed bus, but my keyboard, my mouse and my tablet are just bus.

Thanks :)

How are your USB keyboard/mouse behaving now?

IF you have QT7.6 installed you will get severe mouse lag with all ALL 8800 GT/GTS 512 & 8600-8500-9800 series graphics cards......to fix:

In Terminal

cd /System/Library/Extensions/
ls
sudo mv AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext.bad
ls
exit

Just in case your CPU has issues with timestamp counter synchronization between the cores (i.e. in addition to any tsc drift), the Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel has a workaround which fixes this problem by disabling c1 clock ramping.....i.e. you can put c1ramp=0 under Kernel Flags in com.apple.Boot.plist if you still have some mouse problems.....

Hi verdant,

thanks for your reply, but I don't think this is really the problem right now :/

When I boot Leopard, all is working fine, but this is when I am on it for ... 10-15 minutes that I've got this freeze.

I don't have QT7.6, my keyboard and my mouse work perfectly, but this is just this freeze, when it come, nothing move, just the OS.

Maybe something which will help you, my screen shutdown when I wait 15 minutes, if I go 1 hour, I come back and my screen is shutdown, but I can't get back to leopard, because it freeze. So to understand if it was really a mouse / keyboard problem, I just plug in / plug off a USB key, but nothing happen, whereas if the screen shutdown and then, before the freeze come, I plug in / plug off a USB key, it get back to Leopard, so this is really a USB problem, but not with the mouse and the keyboard, maybe with the beginning USB drivers ?

This is all the OS that freeze, but as I said before, some things always work, like the cursor that show where you will write your next word (I have try to play a music, when it freeze, the music stop).

A little idea, if I upgrade to 10.5.8, will it get more change to work ?

Thanks :(

Put debug=0x144 under Kernel Flags in com.apple.Boot.plist.......it may pick up a kernel panic during various operations while you are using the PC......

Also, use fassl's DSDT Patcher to generate a patched DSDT.aml file to put in the Chameleon 2.0 /Extra directory.....

Hi verdant !

I just write it like this ?

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>debug=0x144</string>

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>5</string>

</dict>

</plist>

Thanks :)

EDIT :

Mmmmhhh,

I have do this modification on my com.apple.boot.plist, then I have install Chameleon 2 to install DSDT patcher, but before I could move the generated folder to my root folder, I've got a freeze.

No problem, I just reboot and I will do it later, but hey, it doesn't want to ...

When I boot, normally it show me the Darwin 86x etc..., now it just show me in 0,5 seconds something like >0000000 ans some other things like that on 5, 6 lines, then it reboot.

I don't know if this is solvable, maybe my editing was wrong I don't know, otherwise I will reinstall it :)

Thanks :)

When you boot with Chameleon 2.0 RC2 do you see the icon of your bootable OS X drive.....if so just type -v -x -f cpus=1 maxmem=2048 and as you do, you should see boot: -v -x -f cpus=1 maxmem=2048 appear in the bottom lefthand corner of the screen......are you able to boot using these flags.....?

Note that with Chameleon 2.0, DSDT.aml file goes in /Extra.......although I think it can still pick it up from / but use /Extra.......

No, I cannot use these flags, because my computer reboot before it. When I boot, he just show me quickly some things like that :

>000000000

>000000000

>000000000

>00000FFFF

This is not exactly that, but it is like. Then it reboots, so I don't have access to boot options.

I can reinstall it if this is the only way, there is no problem and we will maybe earn some times :D

PS : Could you explain to me what Chameleon is really ? I install it because in the DSDT readme I understand that I need it to install it, but if this is optional, I just have to reinstall Leopard, install the DSDT patch in /root but do not install Chameleon (and also don't have to move the DSDT patch to /extra) ? Thanks :)

EDIT :

Are you sure that the problem do not come from an eventual mitstake I made when I edited the com.apple.boot.plist ? It seems to be a boot plist, and the error is on the boot :)

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>debug=0x144</string> <=== Is it here ?

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>5</string>

</dict>

</plist>

Anyway, for instance, I cannot do anything, I think I will reinstall leopard, install again all the drivers (I got them all on a USB key, it will be quick), and just install chameleon, then if you confirm it, I will edit the com.apple.boot.plist as you say to me :)

Thanks again verdant, see ya

There is no problem with the com.apple.Boot.plist but suggest that you use -v debug=0x144 under Kernel Flags.......check in / that mach_kernel.voodoo is present.......and reinstall the Chameleon 2.0 RC2 bootloader......

Ok I will do it, I was reinstalling Leopard when I saw a lot of different kernel.

-9.2 sleep

-9.2 speedstep

-9.22 kabyl

-9.22 modin

-9.2 nforce

-vanilla 9.2

The sleep kernel is the one I had before I reinstall it, I tried kabyl, so now I reinstall it again and again with the sleep one, but if you think there is a kernel that match better with my computer, tell me ;)

Thanks, I will keep you informed :)
