Hello everybody!!!

Unfortunately I have a problem during installation Mac OS X 10.4.6 onto my notebook ACER Aspire 5020WLMi. The problem is here:

First, I tryed to instal OS from DVD disk with '-v' parameter. I could see only one frase at the end of install process - 'Still waiting for boot device'. As I see, my system doesn't support chipset (ATI RS480) then I decided to install it from USB HDD. Here I figured with another problem - how can make my USB HDD bootable? I made an ISO copy of my DVD (with Ultra ISO program) and what should I do next?

May be someone could help?

P.S. Explanation in wiki didn't help me - I read it, but I couldn't intall...

oktay, did you try to install OS from HDD USB or DVD USB?

somwhere here I read that some users could install OS onto thier laptops just using this method. however I can't. May be I do something wrong... See:

1. I made ISO file from DVD-disk with Mac OS X 10.4.6 using Ultra ISO programme. Done.

2. I don't know has it patched yet, therefore I haven't done anything. Done.

3. Then I made an Apple partition on my USB HDD with "diskpart". Done.

4. Then I downloaded "dd.exe" and tryed to use it with an ISO file which I've made before. I run dd with these arguments - "dd if=Mac.iso of=\\?\Device\Harddisk1\Partition2 bs=32256 skip=1 --progress". This arguments let me install OS to USB HDD (Harddisk 1), to new HFS+ partition. Done.

5. Well, with a "diskpart" I made this partition active. Done.

6. Trying to reboot a laptop and boot from USB HDD (my laptop's BIOS let me do such things) I see - "Missing operating system"....

7. That's all....

I don't know how can I solve this problem and how can I win in a struggle with my laptop and OS X.

May be someone really can help?

I didn`t try to install mac os x from usb hdd or usb dvd-rom.Because I haven`t usb hdd or dvd-rom.But I will try it today, network boot options with another computer`s dvd-rom.I think mac os x`s this version not compatible with our mainboard chipset.

He-he... You are wrong, guy! I prefer to think another way. I just don't know how, but I'm sure - OS X will work on my laptop. After then I describe here the solution.

If you will get result faster than me, knock here, ok?

Good luck!

Hello everybody!

It seems that I found a decigion for this problem - how to install OS X to Acer Aspire.

The problem was in ATI ATA drivers missing. Due to this reason OS X couldn't determine any HDD or DVD in sysytem, therefore it waited for root device. When it could get these drivers it would pass this process correctly.

Everything that need for this is JaS's patch for JaS distributive of OS X. Now I'm waiting for it (it should arrived within some days) and after that I'll describe here a full report about installation.

Good luck.

HI John! Are you talking about *bootable* USB volume?? Try to make it with Linux LiveCD and "dd" command by transferring Bootable DVD image to HDD volume ;)

dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/dev/hda1

it's only a simple example of a command...:))
