Hi -

I'm trying to install OSX on my Compaq CQ60 laptop, but having no luck so far. I've tried both Kalyway 10.5.2, and iDeneb 1.4, but they both freeze at the same points: "Loading HFS+ file: [/system/Library/Extensions.mkext] from 4230a80."

I did some research and saw that some others have had the same problems on different laptops, but the fixes don't apply to mine (move the mouse to continue installation... etc.). I have already installed Kalyway 10.5.2 on my regular PC, and I actually have been using it as my main OS, so I'm really anxious to get it installed on my laptop. The only thing that I think could work would be to change the kernel it's booting from. Right now, it's booting from the mach_kernel. From what I can tell, it should boot from the sleepkernel, or the speedstepkernel. However, I don't have those in the "/" directory on the DVD, mainly because I don't know where to find them. It would be greatly appreciated if I could get some help reburning the install DVD with the appropriate kernel in the "/" directory, and then the appropriate instructions for my specs (below)

AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core Processor QL-64 (2.1GHz)

250GB Hard Drive

3GB DDR2 RAM

nVidia GeForce 8200M G

Thanks in advance for any help.

For me it sounds like you have a corrupt CD. Did you burn it at top speed of your DVD burner? The best thing to do is to burn your dvd at lowest speed. Besides that, be sure to use a distrib that has support for AMD, since apple only natively works on intel machines.

It turns out that I unknowningly burned the iDeneb DVD at the max speed. I'm reburning it at a 4x speed to see if that helps out. As far as choosing a distrib that has support for AMD, I believe that both Kalyway and iDeneb have support for AMD. If not, then I'll look up another distrib.

Thanks for the help, Tienneke.

NP ;)

So, it's getting there... Right now it's loading Darwinx86, but not actually getting to the Mac install yet. It gives the error of "Still waiting for root device", which I have looked up to be something to do with the SATA drive? What's the appropriate plan of action for solving this error, and actually getting to the Mac install. (I'm not much of a low-level programmer - Once it gets into the Mac environment, I could probably get it going from there, but until then, I think I'll need some help)

I apologize for the double post, but I'm just wanting to make aware the progress that has been made. So far, I've taken the iDeneb v1.4 iso, and made my 250GB external hard drive into a bootable drive. I've made it to the start of the Mac installation, which is farther than I have in the past. However, when I go to the Disk Utility to edit the partitions of the internal drive in my laptop, it only shows that the external hard drive is there. Everything else up until that point seems to work, though. I've tried specifying "rd=disk0s1", but that didn't seem to change anything, and the USB external drive is the only thing appearing in Disk Utility. Do you think that the Kalyway DVD would have the same problem?

Bump - Sorry for the triple post.

I've now tested several different distros (iDeneb 1.4, XxX 10.5.6, Kalyway 10.5.2, iPC 10.5.6 and iATKOSv7). The results are the same for each one. If I boot off a DVD, I'll get a "Still waiting for root device" error. If I boot from my external hard drive (which is basically a giant install CD), I can get to the beginning of the Mac install, but it doesn't recognize the internal hard drives. I've confirmed that my processor is able to run Leopard, and that it is SSE2/SSE3 compatible. I've looked inside my hard drive to see if I could change the jumper settings on my hard drive, and unfortunately, you can't, as far as I can tell.

Is there any possible way to get this working?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, I am now trying the Leo4All v4.1 distro with the same luck as all of the previous ones. For those of you just tuning in to my problem, lemme recap:

I have a Compaq CQ60-418DX laptop. I have tried multiple distributions of OSX, but every single one of them has errored out in some way or another.

iDeneb 1.4 - infinite restart

XxX 10.5.6 - "Still waiting for root device"

Kalyway 10.5.2 - "Still waiting for root device"

iPC 10.5.6 - infinite restart

iATKOS v7 - "Still waiting for root device"

Leo4All v4.1 - Freezes at Loading HFS+ File.... "TMSafetyNet.kext"

I have tried installing to an external hard drive off of my main computer (which has Kalyway 10.5.2 upgraded to 10.5.7 running on it) but it errors out with some "CODE SIGNING" error.

I've also tried burning the iDeneb ISO to the external hard drive and using it as a giant install CD. Unfortunately, I can get into the main Mac install, but the internal hard drive inside my laptop does not show up.

I have done my research and have found that other people with CQ60s and AMD processors with SATA drives were able to get it working... Why can't I? What am I doing wrong? What can I do to get it working? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Gunn3r, I've been on here for a few weeks now and was only able to come across your post through google. Very strange. This leads me to believe there may be an issue with the Search in this forum but in any case, I was wondering where you were at and if you were able to get it running. I also have a CQ60, although mine is a 404ca. From what I can tell, it looks like it's the same config.

I haven't been able to get anywhere. I just get stuck at your first step. I haven't been able to get any further. Any suggestions if you were able to do this would be great.

Ok finally I found a place with the same laptop.

Compaq cq60-215dx

processor: AMD Athlon x2 dual-core QL-62/2GHz

graphics: nVidia geforce 8200m g

chipset: RS780m

I have gotten mac osx 10.5.7 to run on this through vmware workstation 7.0. I also got audio halfway working with AppleAC97Audio.kext, but it is so stuttery you can't understand anything. Wireless is working and it recognizes my iPhone on iTunes through USB. I also got fullscreen by editing the com.apple.boot.plist. I am now trying to get it to recognize my graphics drive in the about this mac tab. I think if I can get this working the audio will be better because the videos stutter just as much as the audio. I have tried different nvidia enablers and injectors but they haven't worked for me, bit I'm not sure if I'm using them right. Also, I have tried editing the strings in different kexts in the extensions folder through terminal but that didn't work for me either. I also tried using osxtool and there is a string in there for my graphics drive but when I add it to the apple boot plist I get an error that is something like " guest host has disabled this device". I went into the vmware configuration file and enabled pae but that didn't help.

If anyone has any ideas or know where I can get noob guilds for using injectors that would be great. I am trying to figure all this out on the vmware workstation so o have a better understanding and knowledge when I start putting mac osx on my laptop and run it instead of windows vista.

If you need more info about my machine please let me know.

ok what is most likely causing the problem is your internal hard drive is SATA ICH9 where the mac driver may still be ICH8. try to find a ICH9 driver for mac OSX (there should be one somewhere seeing as linux works fine on my CQ60 with ICH9 SATA drive and mac OSX runs on unix like linux) so when you do find one see if any distros have it if not use Easy BCD and add it to a custom boot disk you make yourself (this software i found to be very useful in getting legit OS's on my CQ60 that did not have support for my hard drive) anyway best of luck buddy hope this little bit of info helps

By the sounds of your specs, you and I have the same laptop. I'm also having the exact same problem getting it installed on mine.

Greetings Hackintoshers!

Please help me with the following....

I've got a Compaq CQ60-210US, and I would appreciate any guidance as to which distro should I use & how. :(

Yes, there are plenty of "how-to" guides out there, however each has its own unique method. I have iDeneb 1.4 (10.5.7) & if that is the way to go, please briefly guide me. I can hopefully take it from there.

Many thanks.

The sad news bomb!

NOPE! Never worked for me on my Compaq CQ-60US. I tried every distro. out there! Even tried Chameleon with virgin Mac OSX & still did not work.

What I was able to research is that the SATA drivers on the Compaq CQ60 series are not supported on any distro. of OSX & hence the errors during the load process.

Hope that helps.

did you ever get this working

i need help with my CQ60-405SA :/

theres got to be something ;)

i know you can get virtual machines but thats just not the same :D

has no-one released any type of patched version because the only error i seem to get is either 'still waiting on root device' or some 'ACPI' panic..?

I was/am equally frustrated. Waiting for the distros, then burning them, and then finding out they DO NOT work was very aggravating.

Now, you are getting a different error than I was. Does that mean you may have a better chance? Who knows (its a chicken shoot)!!! No harm is trying the distros though.

I want to mention here that the CQ60 is severely limited by its very very very limited BIOS options. So, if you can play with enable/disable ACPI in your BIOS (if you have that setting), go for it.

Do update your BIOS to the latest before anything else.

OLD Post but heres some info...

When it says "Still Waiting for Root Device"

That Means that your chipset is not supported by default and you can continue the install by using either an external DVD or Harddrive...

Now when you get into the setup and in Disk Util your Internal HDD does not show up then thats a sure way of telling you that their is no kext(driver) for you chipset with in that iso...

Now you can either find a distro that supports that chipset or look around the INTERNET to see if somebody has created one...

Now you can install to an external drive and use osx86 like that but since your chipset is not support it wont work once you pop the HDD back in.

I came across a similar situation.. My laptop had OSX running on it and my friends laptops chipset was not support... I searched Online and found a working kext... I simply installed the kext on my laptop and swaped the drives just to see if it would boot... and it did..

the point is... If you find a kext for your chipset and have another computer with osx on it just reinstall osx on that computer to ur HDD as an external USB and once its up an running install the kext and put the HDD back in the laptop and it should work.
