Hi to the InsanelyMac community. I'm in desperate need of help getting started on OSx86. I'm a complete noob at this and I'm overwhelmed by all the options I have! I've done quite a bit of research on the forums and the wiki, but I'm almost completely confused by all the information.

First, lemme attach my PC's specifications:

-------------------------

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz (Code Name: Kentsfield)

Motherboard: Gigabyte G31M-S2L

Memory: 2GB (DDR2)

Graphics: nVidia GeForce 8800GTS 512MB

Sound: Onboard

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda SATA (250GB, partitioned into two parts)

Network Adapter: Netgear W311v3 (on a PCI expansion slot; wireless LAN)

Optical Drive: LG (don't know the model, but it can read and write DVDs as well as CDs)

Operating System: Windows XP Professional SP3

-------------------------

Questions:

1. With the specs above, will my PC be able to run any of the OSx86 methods?

2. If yes to #1, which one will be the best for me? (I prefer a method that's easy to install, and will allow Software Update)

3. With regard to the answer to #2, someone please give me an easy, step-by-step, only-what-you-need-to-know guide to getting it up and running. I'll be the one to take care of grabbing myself a copy of Leopard.

------------------------

Thank you very much to anyone who helps!

My preference would be for iDeneb v1.4 (10.5.6). Don't know if your NIC is supported, so check the Hardware sub-forum for LAN & Wireless, Clicky here.

Re. your DVD/CD drive, is this SATA or IDE (JMicron)? If it is SATA then try changing your BIOS to AHCI, if it is IDE (JMicron), then ensure you click the option for JMicron!

Re. onboard sound, you will need to find the make of the sound chip, then again check the Hardware sub-forum for sound, Clicky here

Thank you for the information. :)

Unfortunately, I was a little bit impatient and got into a bind yesterday. I tried formatting the partition I would use for OSx86 using the Disk Utility. I noticed my keyboard wasn't working (now I know why; it's PS/2), but dismissed the problem as nothing important. Apparently, I needed to format the partition with a name that consists of only one word. Instead, I formatted it as is ("Local Disk"), and rebooted. Now my PC won't boot into Windows (it keeps saying "Non system disk" in the BIOS startup). Can you offer any advice as to how to fix this?

Note: I was using Boot-132 to do this.
