I know it's possible to get Leopard on, but I'm wondering if I want to - Windows on my wife's celeron netbook is insufferably slow...

I want to use dropbox on the netbook to sync my iCal, addressbook, and firefox settings with my desktop... that's about all I'll use the netbook for... will that be sufficient speed? Or will it be so slow that I want to throw the thing through the window everytime I click on something?

Depends on what you are used to. I have used an MSI Wind with 10.5 for a year as my main PC. I did all the normal office/web stuff on it, made some cad-designs,.... Overall, it should be more than fast enough for your needs.
