This guide is written for x86 computers running Leopard. I was able to dual boot Win7 and osx from two separate drives and load the win7 hard drive via VMware Fusion and run it off the disk (raw access).

My setup.

Hard Drive 1: Mac OS X

Hard Drive 2: Windows 7 RTM

Dual boot using Chemeleon RC2

Step 1. Prepare hard drive. Using Ubuntu or Windows format hard drive 2 as a single NTFS partition.

This step is critical. DO NOT use the built in Windows 7 installer to format your drive. If you do, it will create a 200MB recovery partition. We don't want this. I was getting boot error 0xc000000f (in VM) when I used the built in installer to format

Step 2. Install Windows 7 via DVD.

Step 3. Boot into OS X. Open VMware Fusion. You will see two Boot Camp Partitions. Ignore the first one it won't run. Run the second one.

You're done!

Step 3b. For me, when booted via Fusion, everything worked except networking. This was fixed using this solution. http://communities.vmware.com/thread/20918...DF7960?tstart=0

Enjoy

Thank you! I can confirm this works 100%. I only had one Boot Camp entry in my Fusion. If you want to get rid of the second, just follow VMWare's instructions for removing the Boot Camp entries, then Fusion should just only find the one (I've had that problem in the past and this resolved it):

======

Delete the Boot Camp metadata and re-initialize the Boot Camp virtual machine.

To delete the metadata and re-initialize the virtual machine:

Quit VMware Fusion.

In the Finder, browse to ~/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines .

Delete the Boot Camp folder.

Browse to ~/Library/Preferences .

Delete VMware Fusion folder.

Delete the com.vmware.fusion.plist file.

Restart the Mac.
