Shecky Lovejoy
Hi. I have a hackintosh based around a GA-G31M-S2L and a Code 2 Duo 2.4 CPU. It is only used on the render farm here (qmaster and After Effects). Anyway, I wanted to put in a new Core 2 Quad (Q9550) for a little speed bump. 2 questions: 1) Can I just pop the new one in? Anything I should know beyond the usual? 2) Will I have to reinstall OS X or will my old install work with the new chip? Thanks. Hi. pirloui
It is supported according to Gigabyte, so I guess we should trust them http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherb...?ProductID=2889 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180010-upgrading-ga-g31m-s2l-based-hackintosh-with-core-duo-quad/#findComment-1226962 Share on other sites

Really, I was hoping that I could just pop the sucker in and boot up, but that may be too much to ask. Thanks for the reply Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180010-upgrading-ga-g31m-s2l-based-hackintosh-with-core-duo-quad/#findComment-1226974 Share on other sites
pirloui
Just put it in and it will boot up, yes, it's Core 2 all the way. Am I mistaken, or does that make it officially easier to upgrade a hacked OS X box than a Windows PC? Zaap
Possibly- since a Windows box might require reactivation of the OS, though personally I've never seen that from a CPU or RAM upgrade.
