justboy
Hi folks! Been using a mac for about 3 years (macbook) and it's time for a new desktop. I thought about an iMac but can get a much better system at a cheaper price without the hardware being locked to the monitor so here I am. This is what I'm thinking so far - AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz (Socket AM3) Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333MHz) Super Low Latency Tri-Channel Asus M4A785TD-V Evo AMD 785G (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard Asus GeForce 9600 GSO Magic 512MB GDDR2 PCI-Express Graphics Card My main concern is with the mobo as I can't seem to find anyone running one in a hackintosh. Can anyone give an idea if I'll be able to turn this into a hackintosh? Cheers for any help! pirloui
Although I would support AMD for various political reasons, Intel is really the way to go with hackintosh. It's way more compatible and you won't need a hacked kernel. Try G31M-ES2L for mobo if 4 pci slots and 4GB ram is enough for you , or else a full ATX. On the processor side the the Q9550 has most bang for the bucks right now. If you can wait a few weeks / months (depending of compatibility, they just came out), you could get a i5 or i7 system. Zaap
My main concern is with the mobo as I can't seem to find anyone running one in a hackintosh. Because AMD sucks for Hackintoshes. If you want a standard PC running Windows or Linux, then that setup is fine. (Although personally, having done a number of direct comparisions myself with client build AMD vs Intel hardware, Intel smacks down AMD so badly it's hard for me to recommend AMD even for standard PCs. The only thing going for AMD right now is price, but not performance.) Forget it for OSX. As pirloui said, stick with Intel and supported hardware if OSX is your focus.
