Insidious311
Hey all, I'm having trouble getting my puter to run with 4GB on the 945G board. I get a kernel panic at boot. Hopefully I can get some help this time, so far I'm 0/3 on these boards with other issues. I know it is possible to run 4GB on this mobo because I've done it before. I had Kalyway 10.5.2 and upgraded all the way to 10.5.7. But I had problems with the display and it eventually wouldn't boot anymore. I had to use Vista 64-bit for awhile but for some reason it will always BSOD with 4GB, so I had to remove two sticks (I have 4x1GB sticks) So I installed iDeneb 1.5 to get to 10.5.7 automatically with out having to do kalyway 10.5.2-> 10.5.3->....->10.5.7 (I installed ideneb w/ 2GB) Now everything is great, except I can't get it to run with 4GB. Interestingly enough, it runs with 3GB. Things that I have tried but did not work: *with all four sticks, tried to boot with -x, -s , -f , maxmem=3072. (Kernel Panic) *tried installing all the kernels on the iDeneb disc: using OSXTools: 970,anv,mach_kernel(originally installed), mach_toh: KPs using setup while booted from disc: vanilla: restart at boot, no error messages *I've read that other people just remove the jmicron.kext or appleviaata.kext, i didn't have those kexts, i only have applevia.kext and jmicronata.kext, I've removed the jmicronata.kext, but still no go. i didn't remove the applevia.kext because i wasn't sure if it was safe. * This mobo has no memory remap option. *I have no setting in my BIOS for AHCI or whatever for my SATA drive. It only has SATA: Enhanced or legacy. For some reason, I set it from Enhanced to Legacy at it allowed me to use go from 2GB to 3GB. I've attached some photos of the kernel panic screens: Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Insidious311
Thanks for the reply. Although I couldn't be of much help, I gave you a response in your thread. An update: It seem although I can run iDeneb with 3GB, it crashes after awhile. By the way, I have Crucial BallistiX Tracer 800MHz 4-4-4-12 2.2V modules. With > 3GB RAM I assume you are using slashack's AppleVIAATA kext? Insidious311
With > 3GB RAM I assume you are using slashack's AppleVIAATA kext? Forgive my ignorance, but I don't seem to have appleviaata.kext, I only have applevia.kext. Unless I am not looking in the right place (/System/Library/Extensions/ ?) During my search, I have come across slashack's thread, and it seems to work for alot of people, but all those people have appleviaata.kext and have ICH9 boards, were as mine is ICH7. I plan on using slashack's jmicronata.kext since that is the only one i have. but do i need the regular one or the one with JMB360 support? I guess i can also try Dune's IOATAFamily.kext: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88335 ...or hell why not both. I just wish I better understood the problem.
