WallyFTW
I'm new to the OSX86 community but I've read quiet a lot pertaining to the idea of installing OSX86 onto a PC. First off here are my specs: HP Pavillion a6600f. 64-Bit. Motherboard: Foxconn MCP73M01H1 also known as Napa GL8E. Chipset: nVidia GeForce 7100. Southbridge: nVidia nForce 630i. CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.2Ghz. Video: nVidia GeForce 7100. Audio: Realtek ALC888. Ethernet: nVidia nForce 10/100 Mbs. Recently, I've had the "ERROR: FireWire unable to determine security-mode; defaulting to to full-secure" After poking around the forums I learned I needed to disable FireWire via BIOS. My BIOS didn't actually have the word "firewire". I had to learn to look for "1394". And there was a "OnBoard 1394" function which I disabled. Now a new problem arises. I'm trying to use iAtkos v7. When I press F8 I set the parameters to -v and let it go. Once it hits something like "Extension 'com.apple.driver.itunesphonedriver', setting to 6.0". It stops there. It hangs there until I get a "Still waiting for root device" I don't know whats happening can someone explain it to me and also a solution if available? Same thing happens with Kalyway 10.5.2. I've tried "-v -x" but I eventually get the circle-slash icon over the leaf on the Apple Logo. Thank in advance. ~ Jon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179719-hang-during-installation/ Share on other sites
raizo4ever
I have installed KALYWAY 10.5.1 and it too doesn't work properly. It freezes at the point after displaying the MAC address. I am using a Compaq Presario B1255 TU. Any help will be appreciated. Skyper
The still waiting for root device means that it cannot find your HD try playing round with the HD setting in the BIOS and set it to AHCI if that doesent work try plugging external HD Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179719-hang-during-installation/#findComment-1226222 Share on other sites
WallyFTW
The still waiting for root device means that it cannot find your HDtry playing round with the HD setting in the BIOS and set it to AHCI if that doesent work try plugging external HD Yes I think thats my problem. My BIOS doesnt have the AHCI option. I've checked at least 10 times. My BIOS has minimal options. ): I remember when I first got this computer there was a BIOS update to 5.20. I went to that, the BIOS had an interface change and it didn't look like what it had before. Now I just updated to 5.23, still no ACPI. Is there any other way to do this other than through BIOS? I know I see " ACPI based x64 System" in my Device Manager but most options there are disabled. I've found BIOS drivers from around 3.0 which may contain the ACPI option, although I'm scared to downgrade and I'm unsure if this site is legit. BIOS Site Please if there's another way to change AHCI to Standard OTHER than BIOS, please tell me. ~ Jon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179719-hang-during-installation/#findComment-1226229 Share on other sites

WallyFTW
look around for a kext which supports your chipset and see if it works Remember I'ma noob when it comes for looking to kext/drivers. So 3 quesions: So when you say "chipset" do you mean my motherboard or my nvidia geforce 7100? Where do I look for these Kexts? Once I have the kext where how would I apply it to my iAtkos/Kalyway ISO? Thanks for being the one forum which replied back & Thanks for the help, ~ Jon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179719-hang-during-installation/#findComment-1226269 Share on other sites

I've Googled it and nothing has really come up. Although I did find the Device ID (0x07E1) if that helps generate a kext. Skyper
Thats alright And yes thats correct Open the ISO that you downloaded to install leopard from using ISO editing program and place the kext in the Extensions folder which you will find in the ISO then save it and reburn onto another DVD. Took my iAtkos/Kalyway DVD, popped it in, used IMGBurn to create the ISO (read speed: 8x), opened MagicISO to open iAtkos/Kalyway ISO.With iAtkos, I went under System --> Library but there wasn't an extensions folder. There was an extensions.mkext, but no folder. Luckily with Kalyway, there was an Extensions folder in System --> Library. That's when something very interesting caught my eye. There was already an AppleNforceATA.kext in the folder. Any other kexts you can think of or should I overwrite it? ~ Jon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179719-hang-during-installation/#findComment-1226328 Share on other sites

herpaderpa
This is a perfect thread for me. Except I don't have those problems, I've got the same chipset mobo (nForce 630i/7100). I'm an OSX nub Anyway, I managed to install iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 onto my PC, but there was a buffers error. After resolving that I got the 'Still waiting for root device' error. Sadly I haven't found any way to fix this problem. Let me know how this goes, and when you solve the error could you tell me how you did it and what you used to install OS X. Thank you very much. WallyFTW
Let me know how that goes for ya. I'm trying to use the nForceata but there was no Extensions folder I think the only distro that supports adding kext before installation is Kalyway. (Only one I've found that has an Extension folder). I'm downloading iDeneb v1.3 right should be done in about an 45 minutes. I'll try out with the Nforce patch linked with the download and come back here and report. ~ Jon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179719-hang-during-installation/#findComment-1226372 Share on other sites
WallyFTW
I tried the iDeneb v1.3 (Nvidia Patched) DVD, it got stuck at a huge key string line. It just hung there like the extension did. Sorry but this didn't help. Formula, did u say you got this installed but your getting errors after reboot? If anyone else has any suggested kexts to add to Kalyway please tell me along with a free ISO editor would be helpful. As for right now, my motherboard is deemed incompatible with OSX86. ~ Jon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179719-hang-during-installation/#findComment-1226450 Share on other sites

WallyFTW
Verdant, exactly which part of your thread were your pointing me to? There's so much info and I don't really know where to start. Just tried iPC 10.5.6 Universal PPF5, so much for "universal" still got "Still waiting for root device" *sigh* I guess that's it then. Oh well Thanks so much for trying guys. I guess the only solution would to disable AHCI which I can't do in my BIOS because the option isn't there so it needs to be disabled from somewhere else which it can't. Hit a dead end. oh well. tried platform=X86PC & platform=AHCI, doesnt work. EDIT: About to try iAtkos v1.0i R3. Worth a shot, but it prolly won't work..... ~ Jon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179719-hang-during-installation/#findComment-1227002 Share on other sites
