gawdemmet Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009 I've got a quad boot setup (4 OS on four separate drives) with an xw8400 HP Workstation. Basically a station based around a Tyan Tempest i5000XT S2696 motherboard housed in a HP logo branded case that makes people feel special. The bootloader is installed on the first drive running CentOS 4.7, The second drive runs win32/64, the third one runs Mac OSX Server 10.5, the 4th runs Mac OSX 10.5.7 (iPC 10.5.6 install then upgraded via 10.5.7 combo update) My problem specifically is that neither mac os install (3rd and 4th drive) boots up with an 8-core setup (Dual xeon). The kernel crashes at boot up. No issues whatsoever with either Linux/Windows. It works as closely to a real mac pro as it could ever get but with only one CPU (4-core) Am I stuck running on a 4 core until someone comes up with a bios that boots up all 8 cores? Btw, if anyone wants to tackle this, the link for the bios is at ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp44501-45000/sp44717.exe Any other way to get around this? Anyone else successfully running 8-cores on a Tempest i5000XT? Thanks! g4sho Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009 Hi gawdemmet, I am running an 8core hackintosh based on the Tyan Tempest 5100chipset, the board is the Tyan 5376. It has the 5100 chipset as well as intel ichr9. Everything including sleep, network,8 cores works. But I had problems even getting it to install with out KP until I upgraded my bios from 1.05 to 3.03 . I saw that your board has a 1.05 bios upgrade, I would start with that as that fixed my issues. Also if I remember correctly, when I first got my 8 core to work,this has been about a year ago, there was a thread that I posted on where someone else had a board like yours, and had a guide to setting it up. I originally used Kalyway 10.5.2 So use the search engine to find thread. I belive it was entitled, 8 core hackingtosh or something to that effect. Found it, he has the same board as you.
