Nabisco_DING
Can anyone please help? I am a huge dumbass and screwed up my computer and I dunno how to get it fixed! I MAY have permanetly screwed up my motherboard but I wanted to see if anyone here has experienced this as well? My main desktop has a GA P35-DS3L mobo with a 2.6ghz core 2 duo with 2gb of ram and a bfg 7600 nvidia card and everytime I boot up it doesnt go past the initial boot screen!! I try to press Del, End, or F12 but nothing works! My CPU fan is running, GPU is good... I unhooked my harddrive because I thought that it couldn't boot cuz of that but when I unplugged it, it didnt change.. I took out my battery for 10min and put it back in but no change argh Now you are all prolly wondering what the heck did this noob do? I had Windows 7 installed and I wanted to install Mac OS X so that I can use iMovie for my friends wedding slideshow... I quickly read over the instructions (my ultimate downfall) and thought that it was easy enough to do (should be similar to windows setup... shrink partition, create new partition, install in partition and setup for dual boot) but I got stuck at the Disk Util screen... Didn't realize the program was so minimalistic, I couldnt find the button to create a new partition so I decided to boot back into windows to find out. I exited darwin boot, shutdown, and turned my comp back on and from then on it stopped booting normally.. heeelp pleaaaase I need my computer back so I can work on the slideshow for the wedding I know I'll get flames and I know I prolly shouldve RTFM before I decided to install OS X but i didnt think itd compromise my computer like this! I dont care about reformatting b/c I keep all my personal stuff on an external drive (so still safe phew!) starfox5194
have you tried popping in a windows 7 dvd to see what happens? Check the bios to make sure dvd is the first thing to boot. Reflash the bios. I doubt messing up partitions could cause motherboard failure Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179226-heeelp-did-i-screw-up-my-motherboard/#findComment-1222533 Share on other sites
Nabisco_DING
yea thats the first thing I tried to do So you know the screen that you see when you first boot up the comp? Not the POST but the manufacturer image that covers the POST that says "Press TAB for POST, F9 for blah blah, F12 for blah blah.." Well its stuck at that part... no matter what I press nothing changes the screen. I left it on for a couple of hours and it stays there I put in my windows 7 dvd, iATKOS v7 dvd, server 2008 dvd, etc but nothing works... unplugged my harddrive and it still doesnt go past the image screen... the only conclusion I can come to is that my mobo somehow messed up :S was wondering if you can think of any other possible explanation? laxattack
First off, I don't think the install of OS X messed up the computer. The first thing I would do is take the whole motherboard out of the case to make sure nothing is grounded on it and place it on a wood desk and try to power it on (just a suggestion). If it still doesn't boot then I would try swapping out the ram cause that may be the cause of your issues. Start off with those just as a basic test.
