hello

i bought a d-Link DWL-g122. i installed the latest universal driver (07/04/06) and i could even select the card in the network settings - it is recognized as "ethernet".

however, when i reboot, i have no connection until i unplug and re-insert the device.

i don't want to do this every time, because the usb port is in the back of the computer and it's a pain to access it.

does anyone know a solution to this?

thanks

simon

yes you're right, revision c uses a different one. i have revision c.

anyhow, i installed the rt2500replug package, and the weird thing is: it works after the first reboot (the reboot that is required after the installation).

but it does not work after the second reboot.

anyways: whenever i unplug and re-plug the g122, nothing happens. isn't the driver program supposed to start automatically after replugging?

i get no connection by simply re-plugging.

i need to manually start the driver program from the "programs" folder after i re-plugged, then i get a connection.

if i just open the driver program, i get "no device" (aka the problem everyone is having).

since the first reboot after the installation of the rt2500 solves the problem for one reboot, the solution can't be far. on the other hand, i may just get a netgear pci solution that gets recognized as airport. but it would be cooler to have the g122, cause it's usb!

does it really work for you? "der geeht!" - how did you do it?

simon

Yeah, damn your right. After the second reboot it's back to re-plug the adapter to get a connection.

But the after one minute or so the Config-util open on my 10.4.6!

D-Link provides a Max OS X driver on their page for this one. It contains already some universal stuff, for example a cool PrefPane!!! In this package are also some "Startup"-tools (only PowerPC). Maybe they help! If I get time tomorrow, I will playaround a bit!

ok, now we have the exact same problem. i will mess with it tomorrow.

then i will fumble around with this:

"Sometimes the WirelessUtilityUSB doesn't get loaded at startup and you don't get connected to your WLAN. If you unplug your WLAN-USB stick and the WirelessUtilityUSB isn't running, your mac could/will even crash. A work around is just to add it to the startup items using

System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login items."

hey, i'm returning this card tomorrow. it's nothing but problems. the connection crashes often and i have to replug it then, and restart the driver program. it's a total hassle. i even had my first kernel panic due to this device!

i'll get a netgear or some other adapter that's recognized as an airport.

simon

i use the d-link, but i don't recommend it. mine actually works flawlessly with the replug patch, but before that it was a pain in the ass. one thing that still pisses me off about it is the wireless utility starts up everytime you start the pc. i don't understand why it can't startup in the background.

um, can you please specify where this d-link driver is on their page? i feel like i've searched everywhere, but I'm missing something apparently....

thanks!

I found it on the german homepage www.dlink.de. When you select the "DWL-G122" and then Driver and then Revision C you get a page with the Mac OS X driver! Or direct from their ftp server ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dwl/dwl-g122/driver_software

But the driver is no good!

The driver itself is ppc-only but they have a prefPane as universal binary! But this sucks! I had big problems with this one! So I can't recommend the driver.

I use the one from RaLink !!!

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I have any luck with my machine and report back. I had been having success with the ralink driver, but now I cannot get the G122 to keep a connection for more than 20 or 30 seconds, even after reinstalling, trashing prefs, etc.

well, as you noted, it looks nice, but just doesn't work. the ralink drivers are the only ones to work. too bad i can't keep the connection anymore...
