I've recently put together a new rig with the following specs:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45C-UD3R

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83Ghz

EVGA GeForce 9800GTX

4gbs mushkin ddr3 ram

2 640gb Western Digigal hdd's

20x Sony DVD+/-R SATA

750watt Corsair PSU

This rig has given rise to problem after problem. The entire system hard-locks randomly (but it seems to do it like 100% of the time when doing large data transfers) and the only option is to manually power down or reboot. Browsers crash very frequently and randomly (especially safari). I don't know if this has anything to do with the problems mentioned above, but about a week ago after putting it together, my usb mouse and keyboard would not be usable until 5 minutes after booting any o/s. Also, the computer would not shut down and osx would report some usb errors. These errors were fixed by unplugging my card reader, but other issues still persist. I have ubuntu on my second hdd, and it's been having the same issues, so I don't think it could be the o/s or the hdd. Earlier today, I ran a memtest for about 9 hours and all tests passed. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do? Thanks

a friend of mine had almost exactly the same problems with that motherboard. it turned out to be faulty.

the funny part was that it worked perfectly with only one 2gig ddr3 module - other two wouldn't work alone, or together. that's why at first we thought it was the memory modules.

in the end he replaced both mobo and ram modules and now it works great.

hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion. I removed a module and all of a sudden, there it was - no more crashes, lock-up's, and freezes. Now I have both modules up and running. I had to increase the ram's voltage in the bios and set the correct timings.
