Hey guys,

I have not been on these forums in a long time and I had some questions.

I got OSX to run in VMware a couple years ago but it was borderline unusable back then. have there been any improvements in the following areas?

Screen resolution

Display drivers

Network drivers

File transfer features (drag and drop)

Speed (my image is pretty slow)

Ultimately I would like to be able to transfer files seamlessly between windows and osx. I dont want to have to keep pressing ALT + CTRL to get out of the OSX window. I would love to be able to maximize the OSX window.

Some may ask... Why not just get a mac?

I have one actually... a macbook pro. But I am a windows developer and hate the thought of running windows in OSX. Not to mention that I need the GPU (shader model 3) which fusion does not support.

Why not dual boot? Why wouldn't I just use my laptop beside my pc in that case?

I hate having to use 2 computers simply because I like some applications in OSX better.

VisualStudio > xcode

and I prefer photoshop in windows since the colors do not look funny when windows users look at the images after... =(

Thanks for the link but I had already looked at the manual on that page.

I wanted to know how it actually performed in the users minds... the last vmware image i made claimed amazing speeds and great performance but was rather not usable.

Anyways...I have installed another image using that guide. It seems to work alright except that the keyboard keeps pressing the same button constantly...

I really don't know how it would perform a few years ago. Now everything works fine. It is a little slow and there is no hardware acceleration in VM but the speed is very acceptable.

With the VMware tools installed, the screen can be resized on the fly. Network works fine using NAT mode. The bridged mode may work better though but I have trouble getting DHCP to work properly.

You can mount a shared folder between host and VM so it is pretty painless. smbfs should work also.

Screen can be maximized. I don't need to use Ctrl-G and Ctrl-Alt to switch, the mouse goes in and out without restriction.

Sound works but the quality is very poor.

I am running on 32bit Vista. Intel Q6600/3GB RAM/Acer Aspire M5620.

Max
