bofors
Quartz Extreme is big step toward freeing the CPU from general drawing related tasks by pushing about half of the job onto the GPU. Quartz Extreme is associated with a better OS X experience in terms of general graphics quality and speed. Quartz Extreme: See this excellent review by Jon Siracusa at ArsTechnica for more details: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/macosx-10.4.ars/13 At this time, the only way to get Quartz Extreme working on an x86 Mac Clone is to use a motherboard with an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 900. ThePhased
Yeah I would like to get my 915gm (GMA900) working correctly. It seems it should be supported, I think I am going to try to run OSX x86 without coregraphics and see how it reacts. cwestpha
With normal Apple video cards the GPU's BIOS has within it a kext (driver) for basic usage (ie non-OpenGL accelerated game titles) that aparently supports all of the desktop eyecandy. It could simply be that Apple is carying this over more and hence you cant do it because your card doesnt contain the basic set of drivers.
