I have a tri-boot with Windows 7, iAtkos (latest), and Ubuntu 9.04 currently. Now first I was running iDeneb 10.5.6 fine then my net stopped working a tad after I upgraded to 10.5.7, then it would start working every few boots and stop working etc. so I put on iAtkos and it was working then also stopped. I was wondering if Apple started recently disconnecting hacktintosh users since my net works fine in Windows and Linux but now has issues on any hackintosh.

I'm sure that's not the case :) i mean, Apple blocking hacks.

Probably your network card driver is just not loading properly.. some started having problems since 10.5.5 update (even when supported ootb).

Check the guide in my sig.. it has some tips you can follow, like loading the drive from Extra. And watch out for AppleHPET.kext.

Well, to be able to help more, you have to provide more info!! That's for sure

Only thing that's changed since that is instead of 4GB RAM I replaced a 1GB stick that had died with a 2GB stick, totaling 5. Other than my hardware, what else can I tell you about my situation? My internet always worked fine and works fine in every OS but any hackintosh (in which my net used to also run fine). I read somewhere it's possibly from an April '09 security update but I think Apple is just remotely disabling it.

It shows up as connected in network manager and has an IP and all, but from any browser I cannot access my router, a webpage, or any network shares.

Ok.. your card is supported ootb. The thing is, many drivers are not loading properly on hacks.. i don't know why.

But, there are two things you can try:

- the one that works best is loading the driver from Extra folder. I don't know if you use it?? if so, just copy IONetworkingFamily.kext to Extra/Extensions, then right click the kext, Show Package Contents, go to Plugins folder and delete all kexts except AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext (no need to load all the others). You can leave the kext in Extra/Extensions or add it to Extensions.mkext and place that in Extra folder (mkext stays in Extra, not Extra/Extensions).

Don't put AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext alone in there.. it needs IONetworkingFamily to load from Extra.

- if you don't use Extra folder, copy IONetworkingFamily.kext to the Desktop, open info.plist inside of it and edit this line "<string>Network-Root</string>" (right at the end) to "<string>Root</string>". Do the same in AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext and install the kext back to S/L/E. You will have to do this again next update.

I think I fixed it! Wake on lan settings from Windows, apparently an update causes the Ethernet to shut down when you exit Windows causing OS X not to see it at boot. Toggled some settings in device manager and bam, I'm back online =)
