I'm using debian lenny on my cq40-115au laptop.

Googled around but no success story so far. Anyone with the same machine can share their experience?

I am stuck with "searching for root device" or something like that. Is there any way around other than using external DVD drive?

Current partition table:

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

/dev/sda1 * 1 25 200781 83 Linux

/dev/sda2 26 1367 10779615 83 Linux

/dev/sda3 1368 16324 120142102+ 83 Linux

/dev/sda4 16325 19457 25165822+ 5 Extended

/dev/sda5 18936 19457 4192933+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris

20 GiB are reserved for leopard, unpartitioned.

Ok so from what I can gather you laptop has an AMD/ATI chipset which will require you to install the ATI SATA driver so that Leopard can see the hard disk when it boots. Depending on which distribution you are using depends on whether you will be able to install this during installation by pressing customize or whether you have to manually install it.
