Khan_Man
Looks fine. What is your budget? The video card is a bit old but it will work well. Khan Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/177275-hackintosh-build/#findComment-1213039 Share on other sites
MS1994
I'm trying to spend as little as possible, but still get the best compatibility. I noticed the older Macs used the 8600GT GPU, so I figured it would be compatible. Are there any kexts that I will need? I plan on doing a retail installation. Mija24
I think that you only need to add an EFI string with OSX86Tools or UInstall Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/177275-hackintosh-build/#findComment-1213319 Share on other sites
MS1994
Thanks guys! I've found a tutorial that explains the installation using my motherboard. Seems like it'll work. Does anyone know how I could dual boot using XP/Vista/7 and OS X? chevy2410
You might want to use separate drives for dual booting. Drives are cheap these days and it's much easier with two drives using the Chameleon RC1 bootloader. That's what I would do. MS1994
Well, in that case, is my power supply able to handle a second hard drive? I'm new to building PCs, this was something I just put together. Khan_Man
If you are duel booting on a single drive, install Windows first (partition), then boot and install OS X, the use Chameleon 2. MS1994
Yes that PS will handle 2 drives no problem. Chevy One more question, would the PS be able to handle a 3rd drive so that I may keep all my data on it so both OSes can have access to it? Yes it will. If you go to Thermaltakes site they have a PS calculator there and it will tell you how big a wattage PS you'll need.
