Guest dibble9012
the above does not work on my macbook pro. It says the same error message that is displayed when trying to run an os 9 app. It would be nice to just run a script at startup, but not show an application icon. Also, this only fixes the problem at startup, it will not fix up the problem when waking from sleep. (on my macbook pro, I have to recheck it when booting and waking from sleep) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17685-double-clicking-on-a-mbp/page/5/#findComment-125701 Share on other sites
catmistake
1) besides after reboot, sometimes the right-click will just stop working of its own accord. It can be re-enabled (by unchecking, then checking the checkbox in Preferences). 2) not sure if this a problem with this driver or not... sometimes, when I touch the trackpad to move the pointer around, there is no response what so ever. I thought at first it had to do with the dry calluses on my finger tips, but it happens often enough that I don't think that's it. Messing with the trackpad for a second clears that up, and I get control back, but its a little weird. Zorn
I'd like to say, AWESOME JOB John. One thing though, has a solution been found to the having to recheck on restart problem? I saw someone posted a script of some sort but that refused to work for me. John the Geek
I'd like to say, AWESOME JOB John. One thing though, has a solution been found to the having to recheck on restart problem? I saw someone posted a script of some sort but that refused to work for me. None that I have found. Unfortunately I don't have the problem, so I can't troubleshoot it. My official suggestion is update to 10.4.7 once it comes out. It won't be long now. That will fix it officially for all of us. =) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17685-double-clicking-on-a-mbp/page/5/#findComment-129209 Share on other sites

Zorn
has that been confirmed? I'm wondering the same thing, would be great if Apple made this official with 10.4.7, although they should have pushed it right away IMO. dopeyno1
Hi, Thanks for all your efforts. I just bought a new MBP 2.16. Beautiful. Want to install your trick for the right click option but when I download the file, its type is unrecognizable so I can't use it. Any help???? Kabeyun
Useful & lovely, thank you! Just one thing: it seems not to work following a restart and sometimes a prolonged sleep. Unchecking & rechecking the prefpane option reactivated the option. Anyone else experience this? A fix in the pipeline? -K 15" MBP, 10.4.6, 1GB, 100GB, 256MB Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17685-double-clicking-on-a-mbp/page/5/#findComment-134440 Share on other sites
dopeyno1
Guys... I'm still not able to access this download. When I do, It's an unrecognized type of file. Is this some sort of programming file? Anyone pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaase guide me through the steps. I'm not a computer Whizz but I do get around them well so just a little help would do fine. What exactly do I need to do to use this right-click feature on my MBP? Thanks in advance... DCosta
Hi Carol, I'm not sure which file you downloaded, but this one: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?ac...pe=post&id=2834 is the right one. If you cannot open that, you'll need to install Stuffit Expander. You can get that from here: http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/ Once you've unzipped the patch from John, go into the New folder and open the only file in there. Once you have installed the files, restart your notebook and check your system prefs. The option for right clicking ought to be there. Note: some of us(including myself) report the option not being carried over through reboots. This issue can be overcome by using applescripts. Read the thread to learn about that.(I think its back a page or two from here) OH! and, I almost forgot, you may get some strange errors after your first reboot and every one following that. To fix this, go into your Utilities folder and open up Disk Utility. All you've got to do here is repair the permissions on your primary hard disk. Now, I think I've answered everything there is to ask about known issues with this, unless you install this on a PPC based machine, and that's a whole different can of worms. Luca Rescigno
I've read (most) of the thread and I'm aware that there is not currently a PPC version of this hack. I am also aware that Apple will almost certainly not activate this feature for PPC Macs that have compatible trackpads. After all, it's Apple. However, is anyone even working on a PPC version? I'd be interested to know. Part of what bothers me (as a PowerBook owner) isn't just Apple's drop-off of support for PowerBooks, but the Mac community's lack of support as well. It's almost as if people have forgotten what "UNIVERSAL Binary" means... that's universal, not Intel-only. Anyway, I have a 1.5 GHz 12" PowerBook, so I can't use iScroll 2, nor can I run the Intel-only hack, nor will Apple ever release any kind of a patch or update that unlocks this feature for me. I don't know the first thing about programming, but it would have been nice to see at least someone working on a solution for PPC users. I'm just interested to hear if anyone actually is. Thanks. dopeyno1
Thanks a million DCosta. Well, this file is finally readable. Thanks! So I'll follow the instructions and do all that. But what exactly about the Disk Utility permissions and what kind of errors in reboot should I expect? I've never done that before. I open disk utility and then? (It asks me to select a disk, so I select windows HD or the Mac?) And after I do this repair of permissions, will the boot errors go away or would there be other occuring problems? Sorry for the dumb questions. As for the selection after reboot issues, that's no problem, I've read about it in the thread. Thanks again and sorry for the bother Regards, Carol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17685-double-clicking-on-a-mbp/page/5/#findComment-134728 Share on other sites

John the Geek
Ok, first: 10.4.7 is imminent... like maybe in the next week or so. If it's not a big deal I suggest you hold out. Second: A PPC version. There isn't one because the driver is only for MacBooks right now. There is no evidence that Apple is "keeping" this from PPC users, the truth is that those trackpads may not be the same as the Intel ones. It might require a separate driver, and Apple does not usually write drivers for older hardware. Keep an eye out for 3rd party drivers though. Restoring PPCs after this update. If running my PPC restore didn't fix it, you may have to wait until 10.4.7 to get it all back, or re-run the 10.4.6 update. Luca Rescigno
Okay, I think I see now. This hack is to take the driver that Apple wrote for the 17" MBP and the MacBook and force it to work on 15" MBPs that don't have the driver yet. So even though later iBooks and PowerBooks have all the same features as the 15" MBP trackpads, they're not necessarily the same and the driver is not compatible with them. So basically it'll take a third party developer to write their own replacement driver, a la iScroll/SideTrack. Hopefully someone works on that. I already feel kind of abandoned by Apple, I hope the Mac community doesn't do so as well. DCosta
Carol, I'm sorry that I wasn't clear --I didn't know that you had bootcamp installed. The error is just a small box that will pop up with some technical jargon -don't worry about it, the only thing it does is keep the patch from working. Anyway, you want to select the Mac HD, and click the button that says repair permissions. This will take care of the error messages at boot time. The final issue you may have is the setting not carrying across reboots and sleeps. Read back for a solution to this (it is in this thread). Also, you have no need to opplogize. These forums are here so we can support and learn from eachother. It's no bother. Kabeyun
Well, it looks like it's true: the two-finger right-click driver is part of the 10.4.7 update. To be sure, I restored the native trackpad driver (thanks again, John) and then did the update. Voila: same checkbox as John's driver. Interesting that this isn't mentioned in Apple's description of the 10.4.7 update. -K Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17685-double-clicking-on-a-mbp/page/5/#findComment-136157 Share on other sites
Garissimo
will this work on powerbooks? That's a big NEGATIVE. And this whole subject really chaps my ass, because OSX 10.4.7 was just released today and doesn't include a two finger right click for 2005+ PPC Powerbooks. Earth to Apple: The hardware on the 2005 + PPC Powerbook trackpads supports two finger scrolling. Seriously, how hard would it be to modify the driver to make a two finger secondary click for PPC??? I'm sick of reaching up for the "Ctrl" key to right click my 12" Powerbook. None of the 3rd-party drivers that do a 2 finger right click are compatible with 2005+ PPC Powerbooks, either. Sidetrack will work but only gives you the option of a trackpad corner tap to emulate a right click which I find cheezey. Anyways, if you didn't read this entire thread and went ahead with the 'MBP-only' install on a PPC Powerbook (which is easy to do by accident because the install does not check for hardware compatability and most people who want this mod are blinded by the desire to have a simple two finger right click function) you will find either your trackpad, mouse, built-in-keyboard or all of the above non functional. My fix for this was to plug in an external USB keyboard and mouse and invoke the "repair permissions" function from the built-in disk utility. This eradicated the MBP keyboard/mouse driver and got my system back to normal. Hoorah! So, back to square one...how the hell do you cook up a two finger right click function on a 2005+ PPC Powerbook? DCosta
It's funny... I was so excited about this feature. I had it installed with the hack, but I didn't use the applescript to fix the reboot carryover problem, so I just didn't use it. Now that .7 is out, and it is a standard feature, I've been using it and hate it. It works and carrys over through reboots and sleeps, but it's response is often much slower than the control+click way. Anyone else notice this?
