nyjets12
I just installed JaS 10.4.6 with applied PPF patches and the install went fine, but now the system keeps stopping with a gray screen with a black box containing "You need to restart your computer..." and it keeps hanging up in this spot. Any ideas? Also, a side issue.. I cannot seem to install OSx unless I use the entire drive for OSX.. I tried to install with a pre-existing Windows XP install in the first half of the drive and no matter what I do it wants to destroy that partition to be able to continue, I also tried leaving a blank partition before a new partition for OS X HFS journaled (first option) Thanks! nyjets12
Pass a -v flag at boot and tell us the error messages you encounter. How did you create the OSX partition? I originally created a NTFS partition during XP install and left half unused.. then tried to leave the XP part alone and create a new HFS+ partition in disk utility and it won't do it, I get a warning saying that all volumes or partitions have to be deleted.. or something like that. Of couse it installs when I delete everything and make one big HFS+ (journaled) and install into it, except for the aforementioned boot errors As for using -v boot option, for some reason I cannot pass an option or I am missing how to do it.. help! Thanks! I use to hide signatures and avatars : reading threads is very smooth then. Give it a try! edav. edav
You have to create a FreeBSD type partition before seeing it in OSX disk utility and format it in HFS+. Install XP first, use diskpart to create a primary FreeBSD partition, boot off the OSX install DVD and format it in HFS+ journaled. If you ned more detail, read the install guides in the wiki. To pass a -v at OSX boot, press F8 when you see the Darwin/x86 bootloader. HTH, edav. When I hit F8 when I see the Darwin/x86 bootloader, it doesn't do anything.. except light up the Num Lock key... which is weird... I know it is not the keyboard, though.. works fine for all other systems.. this gets so frustrating..!! I am going to try using Gparted and see if it because the partition is not active.. Anyone?? Probably because your boot.plist include a "Quiet Boot" at "Yes" : try pressing <Ctrl> when you start the PC. edav. Ok, finally reinstalled (again) 10.4.6 and got the same error, but this time I was able to pass the -v flag.. here is what I can see as the possible error messages.. kextd[31]:kld_load.from.memory()failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext/Control/MacOS/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugIn and kextd[37]: a link/load error occured to kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/Plugin/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext and panics from pointer com.apple.driver.AppleHDA(1.1.0a) dependency com.apple.iokit.IOHDAFamily and similar to IOAudioFamily I did all the things you suggested before installing.. in fact, this time I installed 10.4.5 first and it installed fine, so I figure I would just 'erase' it in Drive Utility and maybe it would install correctly.. of course not any ideas? nyjets12
Just move AppleHDA.kext out of the /System/Library/Extensions folder. (or remove the vendor/product id for your audio card from the info.plist file for a cleaner solution) I just saw your reply, but, after installing 10.4.5 cleanly, booting from 10.4.6 DVD and just erasing the volume that 10.4.5 was installed on and did the install exactly the same as I had been doing, the install completed and I now boot up into 10.4.6 (without DVD)!! Thanks to all who helped, especially eDav who offered his suggestions repeatedly. There are a couple of things I will need help with.. The built-in ethernet works, my graphics controller is detected as a GMA950.. how do I change resolution on the display? I need to get the on-board sound to work (Asus P5LD2-VM) and lastly, I have a Belkin F5D7000 (ver 5) how do I get that to work.. I really need the wireless Now onto the installation of XP.. I used Gparted to create 2 119gb ext3 partitions before installing OS X Any help with these few items will be greatly appreciated! vinayp
Sound ------- I think your motherboard uses the Realtek ALC882 audio chip. So, follow the directions here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=5064 Note: no one has been able to get the microphone working on the Realtek 882, so you will only get audio playback. Wireless ---------- The Belkin F5D7000 (v. 5) is supported out-of-the-box by 10.4.5 since it uses the atheros chip. However, the atheros drivers in 10.4.6 are bad. You have to replace the entire IO80211Family.kext file in your /System/Library/Extensions with the version from 10.4.5. After you replace the file, repeat steps 4-7 from the sound fix above. dublea
Ok, I got the JaS 10.4.7 ISO image and was able to get into install, partition an existing HD that I have set as primary. It installed without a hitch, rebooted and I get all text when booting, without even using -v command. Here are just some of the error's I'm getting... (the (Time&Date) just is the time and date I get these messages) (Time&Date) kextd[30]: kld_load_from_memory() failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/NVDAResman.kext/Contents/MacOS/NVDAResman (Time&Date) kextd[30]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extentions/NVDANV40Hal.kext (Time&Date) kextd[33]: kld_load_from_memory() failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPlugin.kext/Contents/PlugIn/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext/Contents/MacOS/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin (Time&Date) kextd[33]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIn/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext (Time&Date) kextd[40]: kld_load_form_memory() failed for module /System/Library/Extentions/NVDAResman.kext/Contents/MacOS/NVDAResman (Time&Date) kextd[40]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extentions/GeForce.kext Language Chooser seems to have failed; defaulting to English localhost mDNSResponder-108 (Dec 25 2005 11: 57:53)[46]: Starting localhost diskarbitrationd[52]: Unable to mount /dev/disk0s1 (status code 0x00000047) localhost DirectoryService[61]: Launch versoin 2.1 (v353.2) localhost mDNSResponder: Couldn't read user-specified ComputerName; using default bMacintosh-000000000000b instead localhost mDNSResponder: Couldn't read user-specified local hostname; using default bMacintosh-000000000000.localb instead localhost mDNSResponder: adding browse doman local localhost mDNSResponder: Couldn't read user-specified ComputerName; using default bMacintosh-000000000000b instead localhost mDNSResponder: Couldn't read user-specified local hostname; using default bMacintosh-000000000000.localb instead localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/Loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started After that, it freezes and does nothing. I can even get the grey screen that shows the Mac logo and spining wheel. It will only go to this. These messages are the only ones I can see that look like errors. I would appriciate any help I could get. Also, under customize, the only extra thing I see is JaS 10.4.7 patch... No AMD, SSE2, SSE3 or anything like that, that I see other people talking about. All I see is the normal Mac stuff and JaS patch. Do you think that i has something to do with installing un-nessasery packages? You can't install "all" of the packages. For the one that includes patches, you must click the little arrow to reveal the individual packages. Select only the Intel packages, not AMD and since your processor is SSE2, select that and not SSE3. The packages probably look something like this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=4249 And you do not need X11. It is a Windowing environment for Unix and chances are you will never need that. And it has nothing to do with Nisus Writer. Yes, perfect, IT WORKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, THANX TO YOU. :-) The sound does it, the network card works and the graphics. I don't have to do anything. Nou is a nother problem, like always with this kind of things haha. When it want's to do update, there is an update that is called: "Mac osx tiger (intel)" and is 136MB big. When it want's to install that half the way it crashed. Nothing works except the mouse, after that it won't boot anymore and i have to install the hole shabang again. I have don that nou more than 2 times cos i wanted to know if that was the tru problem, and it was and second i wanted to know if i download it and install it seperadtly maybe it works but that did not help also. So that is nou the problem and i can use that update anymore cos i know that, that makes the hole thing to crash. Any thoot's on this problem?
