Hi, im new to the hackintosh world although ive had a few other friends do it successfully. of course as my luck would have it i would be the only one with an AMD Quad Core CPU system. anyways, i was wondering if maybe someone could tell me where to start... My hardware is as follows:

AMD Phenom Black Edition 9600 Quad Core Processor 2.3 GHZ

2Gb RAM

Nvidia 9800GT 512vram graphics card

Gigabyte MA770-UD3 Mobo

id like to run this on a seperate IDE 80Gb drive that i pulled out of another pc. i know the drive is in working condition. PLEASE help me out as ive been wondering whether or nor to get a pc laptop or a mac and figured this would be a good trial.

Thanks! Vone

PS: This is a custom built machine. lemme know if i forgot to mention something as it is 2 am O.o and im a little rattlebrained

A good place to start is with a distribution... Examples like Kalyway, iPC, iAtkos etc... If you are up to it, you can read up and install retail leopard, a better install, but more work.

You will need a different kernel because its an AMD, which means you cannot run a vanilla kernel. You will use the Voodoo kernel instead. Thats the only difference with the AMD vs Intel.

The GFX, just happens to be the same one as me... and either an injector that the distro installs will work, or a EFI string that you have to find and install (better than an injector)

All in all, it will work fine with both methods, i guess the only differences is that a distro is faster and easier, whereas a retail install (boot132) will take longer, but be more mac like (theoretically unbreakable after an update...) If you have anymore quiestions, feel free to ask.

cool. im pretty technical but ive never really messed around with kernels and such so maybe you could help me through that? or point me to a guide for it? also any ideas where i can get some of those driver/kernels/discs w/e i needed?

There are modified distros for AMD you can pick them up by searching or the usual places. Installing with a distro is as simple as boot up the install pick which drivers to install, get the bootloader installed and move on. Hecker made a tutorial for making a boot132 CD for AMD here so that you can boot a retail OSX disk. It also contains a link to munky's thread. The drivers can be found by first of all figuring out the exact hardware in your system then search around for drivers. Some other people may have the same hardware as you and they may have compiled a list of drivers to get everything to work so search around.

Kalyway can boot AMD machines... Just select the kernel in the options during install (under customise after the drive selection screen). I am not sure if it has the voodoo in the options... It has other kernels that are older though. You would need to install voodoo kernel afterwards. Also, you would want to update to 10.5.6, an to do so, you would need to do some reading and install the voodoo afterwards...
