Paul M
I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop, Pentium M 1.7, 60gb hard Drive with 512mb RAM. I am interested in having a go at installing OS X onto the Dell. I already have a G4 so i already know my way around OS X and have i guess a more than average understanding of PC's. I was looking through the installation guides and was wondering a) if i am right to have a go at it which guide i should follow. I have read a few of the guides and i seem to be ok on most things although there will be a few things that i would be doing for the first time. I mean if i was to screw the installation up how easy is it to get XP back on the hard drive and will i ever be able to update OS X. Its all exciting but very daunting aswell, the wow factor and novelty factor is almost too strong to resist. Please advise and if need be, be there if i need help. Paul. edav
Hi Paul M, Yes, there's a risk you could damage your XP installation but, as soon as you don't remove the partition XP is installed on and reformat it and install something else on it, there's always a way to recover everything. But keep in mind that you should exactly know what you're doing and that you should save your important data in a safe place before proceeding. If you accept that, then verify in HCL your laptop components and be prepared to what should work and what should/will not, make room for a new primary partition, boot off the OSX86 install CD (IMHO don't use version prior to 10.4.5), format your partition in HFS+ and select "Customize" options according to your hardware. Then follow the rest of the installation process, reboot and smile. HTH, edav.
