This seems like another win for Apple in the battle with PC makers. I could not quite believe this: the latest USB sound card from Sound Blaster comes with a support for Mac (as well as PC). As for a sound card it is rather a basic one with e.g. no real surround sound. But it has a built-in wireless streamer that can blast music from itunes to speakers or a hifi in another room, according to the

Sound Blaster Wireless for iTunes product page anyway.

You gotta be kiddin' me! USB sound? I have to plug yet another gizmo in because Apple doesn't have a real 3rd party sound driver? Why is this news? Mac sound is totally average, if not lame.

My biggest complaint against Apple (Supposedly a Music Company) is you can't buy a real sound card. You can't even get simple optical/digtal Dolby 5.1 sound. What is up with that?! I have a Razer sound card on my PC (there's probably a half dozen other good ones) that has all the hardware drivers for Dolby, THX, etc. It sounds awesome! No comparison to Mobo 5.1 sound Mac or PC. I never totally switched to my hackintosh because of crappy sound. fyi, I have a MacBook Pro, but I didn't buy for music/sound.

Why can't you buy a real PCI or PCI-x sound card with Mac Drivers?

I suspect there isn't a big market for the pci (e) sound card for mac since mainstream macs can only have add-ons through UBS or Firewire. Pro users using MacPros would usually have the money to get high end sound interfaces that support mac. So... it sucks for us hackintosh users...
