hi to everyone,

i want to install on my pc macosx for learn how it works.

This is my partition table:

1: ntfs 50gb

2: ntfs 30 gb

3: ext3 60gb

4: Extended partition

4.1: ext3 300gb

4.2: linux swap 5 gb

4.3: free space 15gb

so...my goal was to install macosx in 4.3 partition (sda5 for linux).

But, when i formatted, unsing disk utility, it returns me an error and no partitios was formarted...

So...what am i mistaking?

thank you very much

In windows, convert that free space to a FAT32 partition. Boot your install DVD, then erase that partition using diskutil.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOME WAY TO RESTORE YOUR BOOT SECTORS BEFORE CONTINUING. I recommend a boot usb with testdisk on it.

i formated before using linux in fat32, but i cannot format in hfs journaled

i thought i cannot install mac osxon logical partition, is it real or not?

however, i bucked up grub

Is real. Here's my layout:

1 ROOT (FAT32, DOS/98SE/XP/2K)

2 EXTENDED

2.1 Gentoo Linux

2.2 OSX

2.3 Games

Like I said, format as FAT32, then boot from the OSX DVD, and run diskutil - use THAT to erase the fat32 partition and make it a mac journaled one.

Beyond that, haven't a clue mate!

I tryed to do what you said, but it failed.

When I booted dvd and I opened DiskUtility, I selected disk1s5 and i clicked on Erase tab. And then i selected like Volume Format Mac Os Exented (Case sensitive, journaled) and then i wrote a name. At the end i clicked on "Erase..." button. After few seconds, it's returned:

Volume Erase failed

Volume Erase failedd with the error

MediaKit reports illegal request

And when i rebooted, a kernel panic occured like the attached picture

Wait, does iPC support MBR partition tables and install to a logical drive? The base/vanilla OSX only lets you use GUID and install to a primary partition.

I've never even read the info on iPC and don't have the time now, but have had no problems with kalyway 10.5.2 or iATKOS v7.

can you explain me difference between those osx? Is it always MacOSX? Why iPC wouldn't support logical driver, but another one can support?
