I'm not sure what to do with this OS X installation. I've searched this site high and low and I've followed many guides on how to partition the drive for GUID and EFI v8, reinstalled os x countless times, but I cannot get this darn thing to boot without the CD! More info. I've installed the retail copy of OS X 10.5.6. I just can't boot without the CD with the bootloader.

My system is:

Q6600

Intel D975XBX2 (Bad Axe 2)

NVidia 7800 GTX

8gb of ram

If I can't get this thing to work I'll just crawl into a hole and die! Any guidance from you guys will be appreciated!

come on! Someone gotta know how to make this thing boot with a bootloader??

Download iATKOS v7, burn, boot with disk, and install Chameleon v2 from the utilities menu, this should be able to boot your install.

Edit: If this doesn't get your current install to boot, just run through the full install from the iATKOS DVD to get a working 10.5.7 installation.

iAtkos Chameleon messed up my Windows boot - just corrupted it, and no recovery would work.

In the end, I had to reinstall windows and install iAtkos without the Chameleon, then use the beautifully simple EasyBCD to boot them both.

Is this iAtkos dvd the vanilla flavor where I can get the updates from apple without having to do any changes?

I installed iAtkos and it's working great! Thanks for the recommendation. Although I was a little unsure what to select during the customization process but I guess everything turned out ok after I used a program called customrez I believe to edit the monitor's native resolution so it would show up in the settings.

I've done various installs, and the whole resolution thing has always worked OOB just by installing the correct driver from the customisation. This has worked on 3 different graphics cards.

That is quite strange. Either I'm doing something wrong or this graphics card is gimped. But it seems to work when I use the program to force the higher resolution mode to show up. But one draw back is that I can see a line scrolling up the screen. It's possible that the frequencies are off a bit. I do wish this thing would just work straight out of the box without me having to do anything to it.

Right now I'm just trying to make a ghost image of the whole set up so I can just go back to it and install it without having to run the os x dvd.

What graphic card do you have, and what option for it are you selecting from the install DVD?

I didn't select any video card option during the install but I did install them after os x had finished installing. my graphics card is an ASUS 7800 GTX 256mb version. So far I've used NVInstaller which is just NVInject I belive, then I've used NVKush, and EFIStudio.
