intradink
Hi, I was hoping someone here maybe able to help me. I'm considering getting a Mini, but have a few questions about it first: - 1. How loud is it? - I'm thinking of keeping it running 24x7 in a bedroom or living room. 2. Any obvious problems in connecting it up to a standard TV (DVI-Component/sVideo adaptor)? I'm thinking basic media centre with a TV as a monitor. 3. Is it possible to have a user logged in on the actual mini, and then also have a different user logged in via VNC? So this should be 2 different sessions that are independant of each other, eg user 1 is logged in watching a video, and user 2 is VNC'd in checking their email. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17288-mac-advicequestions/ Share on other sites

intradink
Hi jgrimes80, Thanks for the reply. With point 3, could you explain how to go about doing this, and why wouldn't you recommend it? I've been getting conflicting opinions about if it's possible. Mr. Bond
As for point 3, I'm not too sure as to how that would be possible. It would be nice for you to elaborate jgrimes80. Maybe setting up the Mini to use dual monitors, and VNC onto the second monitor (Despite the fact that there really ins't a second monitor, but you'll technically see it when VNC-ing in)? The only problem I see with that, is CPU and Ram usage. Watching video's, and then VNC-ing in to play games and such would probably place a significant hit on CPU/Ram usage, especially on a Mini. jgrimes80
Here.. http://www.redstonesoftware.com/multidesktop.html#WhatAre Performance of your Mini will be especially while trying to watch a video... Mini's are great don't get me wrong... In fact, the newer ones will probably work great... idk On our PPC Mini, running apps in the backround messes with Dvd playback performance. If you have any specific questions, PM me. hell, I could take pictures proving it works And Mr. Bonds... you don't need to setup for dual moniters, simply enable fast user switching (each user logged in; w/ own vnc server) and enable remote desktop sharing. Mr. Bond
Yeah, I really had no clue how to go about doing that. I was really just guessing, that's all. Glad there's a much easier solution to go about with. Though in theory, you could go with a dual-monitor type thing, couldn't you? It might give you a little extra speed, as you don't have both users running simultaniously. jgrimes80
If you can do it on a Mac, it's easy... any Mac user should have that one down... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17288-mac-advicequestions/#findComment-112330 Share on other sites
intradink
Perfect. That's exactly the solution/confirmation I was after. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17288-mac-advicequestions/#findComment-112343 Share on other sites
