svencux Posted June 29, 2009 Share Posted June 29, 2009 hello, i have gigabyte ep45 ds mainbord running on leo 10.5.7 all is fine except this strange issue. I have an sony Q31A IDE DVD burner wich is recognised and reads CD'S DVD's fine. Partially it burns CD / DVD but than sudenly it start burning and than the system chrashes. I have to reebot and will hapen again and again. Reading CD / DVD does not seem to be problem. I have no idea what to do. Beerkex'd Posted June 30, 2009 Share Posted June 30, 2009 It's not necessarily the drive, it can be the drivers for the P-ATA controller that you are using that causes the crashes. There's a 64-bit addressing bug with some of those on systems with more than 2 or 3 GB RAM. See the first sticky post in this forum. Try booting with maxmem=2048 and burn a DVD. If it doesn't crash, then it's the driver, not the drive. svencux Posted June 30, 2009 Author Share Posted June 30, 2009 hey Beerkex'd, thanks for the hint, but I have to ask this stupid question. how do i boot with just max 2048 of ram ? stop darwin at the beginning and type maxmem=2048 I am actual using 4G of RAM. thanks. Typing maxmem=2048 at the Darwin bootprompt will limit the amount of memory the OS can access to 2 GB.
