applehacker
Hi guys! I just bought this laptop online, and plan to test iPC 10.5.6 on it. I don't have it yet, but I would like to develope a general outline of what needs to be done. Here are the specs: Intel PM45 ICH9-M Intel Core 2 Quad Q9100 17" WUXGA 1920x1200 nvidia 9600M GT ALC888s audio Integrated bluetooth Card reader esata port What will I have to do to have a perfect installation (it can run vanilla kernel/acpi right?) Thanks for any help in advance! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172544-msi-gx720/ Share on other sites
nikhilr51
Hi, i have the MSI GX620 (same except has a 15" screen, more portable) and i installed Osx about 2h ago. It installed, but got stuck when i tried booting. I haven't got a reply at my post yet. I'm not sure what i did wrong but i think it should be possible. And its a really good laptop. I managed to get it working, had to disable AHCI in the bios. It runs now but Wifi doesnt work and the max resolution is only 1024 x 768. Bluetooth works tho. Forgot to test audio but i dont think it works either. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172544-msi-gx720/#findComment-1186817 Share on other sites

I havn't got mine yet, buy you may want to try these distros. sound is a biggy, and so is graphics. nikhilr51
Yeah i used iAtkos V5i. I read somewhere else that there is no support for the 9 series or centrino 2 yet. Although that doesn't explain sound, i'll go back and check that. -Edit- I think 9 series graphics are not supported in 10.5.5, you should download 10.5.6 which i think does have support. Not sure about the other stuff tho. -Edit- I am going to update to 10.5.7 (which exists apparently) via software update. I need to go partition my hd though as it needs more space to install. I am writing this on leopard via ethernet which does work. Also the Cd drive has started working. -Edit- Extending the partition involved me formatting it and reinstalling it again but the graphics card works now! Nothing else works and the settings for the trackpad have dissapeared (not too big a problem). Wifi and audio. Thats all thats left. Mmm... applehacker
hold on. iPC is based on 10.5.6? Did you have to use an injector, or did you just update and it recognized your card? I will post more tests for the ALC888s sound. Wifi, well i can say im set for that, as i have a broadcom wireless card Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172544-msi-gx720/#findComment-1187915 Share on other sites

applehacker
so you didn't have to use natit, or nvinject, or nvdarwin, etc? As for our sound card, its codec is ALC888s. Try all 3 packages in the download section here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=129058 Remember, we use realtek alc888 Oh, and did you have to boot with any special flags like cpus=1? nikhilr51
Nope didn't have to use any of them. Just a simple software update. And i booted with busratio=20 cpus=1 -v -f Thanks for the link, i might try that out during the holidays when i have more time. 3 more days..... applehacker
do you have to keep booting every time with those flags, even after the installation is complete? BTW, you may want to check this out: http://www.osxcores.site50.net/product-2.htm Search for gx620, it should have 2 modded bios files for you to use to get all cores working if you always have to boot with cpus=1. If you think its too risky, you can also try to patch your dsdt (google it) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172544-msi-gx720/#findComment-1188677 Share on other sites
nikhilr51
Sorry forgot to mention, you only need the cpus=1 code when you install it. Its fine after, it boots normally without any codes. applehacker
hmm, and you get both cores working? Thats great if so. Just try that ALC888 link i posted, should get our sound working. Did you manage to re enable ahci afterwords? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172544-msi-gx720/#findComment-1189040 Share on other sites
nikhilr51
Yep, both cores working. For ahci you have to select something in the customise menu when ur installing, then you can leave ahci on. nikhilr51
Not yet, i'll do it on Saturday. Ugh, 320gb too small... Running out of space, annoying. Need to go uninstall some games. One good thing about osx is that it actually recognizes 4gb of ram unlike windows. 1 more day till holidays.... uguhghg..
