Need some help with Toshiba Satellite A300-203

Hello,

 

I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-203 with the following specs:

 

Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.0 GHz

3 GB RAM

320 GB SATA hard disk

DVD recorder SATA

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 (I'm starting to hate it...)

Intel Wifi Link 5100

Realtek RTL8101 (ethernet)

Toshiba Soft Modem

Chicony USB 2.0 Web Camera (laptop webcam)

 

 

I'm going to enumerate the issues I need help with. I have XxX 10.5.6 installed with the default Vanilla 9.6.0 kernel.

 

 

 

1. When I look over "About this Mac", it says it is an "1.2 GHz Unknown". I already set com.apple.boot.plist so as not to show that, but why does it believe it is a 1.2 GHz processor? It's 2.00 GHz actually. How can I fix this?

 

2. Are there any drivers for Intel Wifi Link 5100? I am using a D-Link DWL-G122 USB dongle now, and it's a bit uncomfortable. The connection also freezes sometimes.

 

3. Is it any way to change resolution? My graphics card does not support neither QE nor CI, I'd like to clear that it is a MOBILITY radeon, not a classic radeon one, and as I know now, there are no kexts for 3400 mobility radeon series. I can't get more than 1024x768 even if I set the resolution on com.apple.boot.plist.

 

4. Soft modem cannot be used, right?

 

5. I can only use the webcam if I keep CamTwist opened and in the meantime, e.g. open FreakShow, then I can use it. But if I open any program (with CamTwist closed), the webcam's LED turns on but the image is all black (no image). I can't use the webcam on iChat neither with CamTwist nor with IUSBCam (in this case the program freezes and closes).

 

6. Is it any way to change brightness with Fn+F6 and Fn+F7? These keys don't work in mac and I have to boot into another OS, then change brightness and then boot back to mac. I already tried BrightnessControl and Shades with no success. Is it any way to fix this? Some kind of kext?.

 

7. Can I update directly to 10.5.7 without having problems or issues afterwards? As I said before, I have vanilla 9.6.0.

 

8. And one of the most important issues, is it any way to be able to sleep with vanilla? If I let the laptop sleep, when it wakes up the screen appears but I can't move the mouse (there's no cursor) and I can't do anything else, so I have to turn it off pressing the button.

I'd suggest to start reading/watching wiki.osx86project.org, where people posting their managed to work configurations.

What will I fix by doing this? My HDD is not a problem, it is already set up AHCI drives in bios aswell.

- Help: Use a app called "About this MAC" from the friend Zephiroth. You can change you processor/memory specs.

-Help: try to press your "Function" keyboard key and use the Directional Keys (up,down,left,right). Maybe can work.

Okay, I will check it. But I still wonder if it treats the processor as one with 1,2 GHz, with its performance loss.

I didn't find anything, I think it is maybe because there is no way to fix it.
