knidsrok
I'm happy to do my own legwork finding the right kexts for my particular PC, but I'm having a little difficulty understanding just how I'd go about this. I'm trying to install a vanilla installation of leopard off a retail DVD (which for ease of modifaction, I've put onto a USB drive.) I've been able to get as far as having run the leopard installation process onto its own partition, which is recognized as bootable by Chameleon, but hangs any time you try and boot to it. Am I correct in assuming this is because I don't have the proper combination of kexts installed? If so, how does one go about figuring out which kexts are needed? Is there any databate where I can look up my hardware, and find out which kexts are required to get it to work? I presently have an iDeneb 10.5.6 installation up and running -- could I copy and paste all of the kexts from that into the kext library of the vanilla installation, or would that not work because I'm using the Voodoo kernel with iDeneb? MGJulius
What's your hardware information, and you need at least AppleDecrypt.kext, and Disabler.kext Also try booting in safe mode (-x) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172226-how-do-you-figure-out-which-kexts-you-need/#findComment-1185342 Share on other sites
Beerkex'd
You are correct that AppleDecrypt(or DSMOS).kext is mandatory, but Disabler.kext is not required on all systems. I'm not using it. knidsrok
What's your hardware information, and you need at least AppleDecrypt.kext, and Disabler.kext Also try booting in safe mode (-x) Originally, my intent was to ask how to go about figuring out myself which kexts I'd need for my particular hardware, as opposed to having to list them and be told. I guess I figured it was more polite and less noobish than to say "here are my specs, what do I need?" If, however, you're happy to tell me what kexts are required for my hardware, than I'll gladly accept your offer. The PC in question is mostly an old Dell Dimension E310, so it's got: Processor -- Intel Pentium 4 521 / 2.8 GHz (64 bit capable) Chipset -- Intel 915GV Express Graphics processor -- Intel GMA 900 Audio -- sigmatel somethingorother, for which I've got a patch that works post-install The RAM and HDD are not original parts, and are: RAM - PNY Optima 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 HDD - Seagate Barracude ES 500GB SATA let me know if you need any other info. Thanks in advance for your help. Search for that one aswell. Download the kext files you find, that will be the ones you need. sigmatel somethingorother, Won't do, you will need the model. Yeah you don't need it w/ proper DSDT or voodoo kernel, but I tell people to use it for good measure. And deamobile is spot on, your chipset and graphics are supported w/ the appropriate kexts (google is your friend). Also check out the wiki and see if other people have the same model and privided links to kexts.
