Silver_Seagull
Hey there, new guy....please don't bite Let's get the specs out of the way... AMD64 3000+ Venice [Zalman CNPS950 cooler] DFI LANparty UT-D (SLI) [nF4 chipset] 1GB 2.5-3-3-8 Samsung DDR400 Dual-Channel RAM 160GB SATA drive [NTFS w/ Windows] 80GB PATA drive [NTFS w/ 20GB primary reserved for and installed with Mac OS X 10.4.4] SoundBlaster X-Fi Platinum PowerColor ATi X800 GT 256MB [PCIe] Panasonic DVD-R/W Dual Layer I've installed the patched 10.4.4 to the 20GB partition on the PATA drive, my only issue is now getting it to boot. The chain0 methods described here and here don't seem to work, unless I am missing something. I was wondering about installing GRUB to the SATA [Windows] drive and mapping the two drives like you would do for a dual-boot with Linux and Windows where they are on two physically separate drives, but I was hoping there would be an easier method. Any suggestions? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17149-installation-successfulnow-to-boot-it/ Share on other sites
anarklov3r
well here is my experience my 250gb hdd i spilt into 4 parts first was a 50gb for windows xp, then a 90 for games, 20 for backup and a 90gb for music so thats,, [50gb--(win)--][90gb--(games)-------------][20gb-(OSX)-][90gb----(MUSIC----------] Now, when i installed OSX onto the 3rd partition, even if i set it to active, used the chain0 method and all t wouldnt boot all i had to do was spilt my first partition so my 50gb for windows xp, became [50gb-------(ORIGINAL)--------] [20gb [OSX]---][30gb (WIN)---] since windows xp cant read a HFS+ parition, the 30gb seems like C: drive to it so no problems, and since the 20gb is at the start of the hdd thers no issues booting because it installs the bootloads (thinks its an only os) the installed boot loaded however shows 2 OS's when booting winxp and OSX easy!! Silver_Seagull
Hey, thanks for the reply, although that's not quite my problem. My main drive is SATA- which according a lot of people doesn't work, and OSX86 refuses to see a partition on the drive, so I assume it doesn't work. I have a secondary drive which is an 80GB PATA that I use for storage. SATA1 drive [----------------- 120GB Windows NTFS -----------------] PATA drive [---- NTFS Storage ----][---- Mac OSX86 Installed ----] My issue is getting the second partition on the PATA drive to boot. I was thinking of using GRUB on the SATA drive's MBR, using a map command, like so: default 0 timeout 60 title WindowsXP root (hd1,0) makeactive chainloader +1 title Mac OS X root (hd1,1) map (hd1,1) (hd0) map (hd0) (hd1,1) makeactive chainloader +1 My only question is would that work, or have I done something wrong. Deviant0ne
I used the chain0 method from the OSX86Project WiKi... It worked (and continues to work) flawlessly for me. Check it out here. Silver_Seagull
Oh boy....is my face red. I begrudgingly re-setup the chain0 boot (I had tried it before with no success) and to my dismay found I had set the "wait time" to 0 seconds..... Ah well...thanks a bunch ...now on to screen resolution and drivers Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17149-installation-successfulnow-to-boot-it/#findComment-112441 Share on other sites
