Hi all. I'm running iTunes 8.2, though this has been happening for a while... since the beginning of 2009 at least.

Anyway, if I try to create a new Smart Playlist or edit one of the existing ones (there are a handful of built-in ones), iTunes invariably crashes. It takes about two seconds after clicking, but it crashes. This happens on all 4 of the osx86 systems I've built (each different hardware). Everything else works perfectly on the system, only this is wrong.

I'm not certain that it's my build that's the problem because I don't know enough about what's wrong to diagnose anything. I tried creating a new user account, and the brand new iTunes there crashes the same way. I asked on MacInTouch and the question got posted, but it didn't get any response.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I'm running 10.5.7 with all the newest updates. Originally installed from iATKOS_4i in late 2008.

Thanks for all the help!

David

Same thing and I also have iAtkos, 5i, updated to 10.5.7 with a vanilla kernel... could it be iAtkos?

That sounds like a good bet. I'd like to hear from some people who've installed something other than iAtkos to find out if their iTunes Smart Playlists are working correctly. Anyone?

Ok, I figured out how to fix this on my machine (super easy, too):

- Download the latest version of iTunes from Apple.com

- Delete your existing iTunes application in your Applications folder

- Reinstall iTunes using the iTunes installer you downloaded

- Enjoy Smart Playlist creating/editing without crashing
