TechWiz
Hey guys! First post but I've been around here a bit and I've got a serious problem that needs some attention. I bought a Rocketfish Keyboard and Mouse combo which is meant to be used on a windows computer (No Mac drivers/kexts) and the bluetooth dongle has this "First Connect" thing where it allows the bluetooth adapter to pair with the keyboard and mouse without software intervention so that you can use the keyboard in the BIOS and stuff. The problem is that when I boot with the dongle connected, the keyboard and mouse pair with the USB adapter with the First Connect feature which temporarily turns the USB adapter into a USB Mouse and Keyboard. With windows the drivers would switch it back to a Bluetooth adapter but there is no such thing for Mac and also the media functions don't work while the adapter is in First Connect mode. Now I've have another bluetooth dongle laying around and I've tested the keyboard and mouse with that other adapter and both the keyboard and mouse work flawlessly without the need for drivers, media keys and all. However my BIOS won't let me boot without a keyboard attached and it won't recognize the bluetooth adapter as a USB keyboard (Thus my need to use the original Rocketfish adapter) Occasionally the Rocketfish adapter will connect as a Bluetooth adapter but its rare and I have no clue as to whether or not my tinkering has any effect on it... Anyone have any ideas? I've already repaired my permissions and switching the dongles after a successful boot is not an option I'm willing to look into. I'm using version 10.5.7 with a 10.5.2 IOBluetoothFamily.kext (Headset support is better) Thanks in advance to anyone who gives any suggestions of any kind. TechWiz
Wow no replies yet.... Anyway, I found that OS X likes to recognize the USB adapter as a Bluetooth adapter about 15-30 minutes after it boots and its not simply because both the mouse and keyboard are disconnected at the same time because it will drop my keyboard while I'm typing to set it up as a bluetooth keyboard. TechWiz
bump.... Found that the USB dongle has two separate device ids apparently. One which is USB Hub (Controlled by AppleUSBHub.kext) with ID 0x4500 (17664) and the Bluetooth ID which is 0x2120 (8480) which is discovered later on and is controlled by AppleUSBBluetoothHCIController.kext Now for it to work properly either a kext will need to be made or a script that will poll the USB device and retrieve all the IDs sooner so that the proper drivers can take over. I've attempted adding both of those IDs to the Broadcom drivers found in the IOBluetoothFamily.kext > Content > Plugins folder but that fails because the 1st half of the dongle is snatched by IOUSBFamily.kext's AppleUSBHub.kext Does anyone know how to add exceptions in the kext's Info.plist file so that it WONT take control of the dongle and force it into Hub mode? Perhaps I'm doing this all wrong and I'm working with the wrong kexts? Anyone have ANY idea what might be wrong or how I can fix it? I got all of this from tinkering in the Extensions folder (with backups of course) and using USB Prober which is bundled with XCode. Thanks again, TechWiz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171080-rocketfish-bluetooth-issue/#findComment-1185397 Share on other sites
TechWiz
bump.... incredible 122 views (at time of writing this post) and not a single reply from anyone..... Seems like I'm the only person on this forum with this mouse keyboard combo. TechWiz
Well seems like no body wants to even take a crack at this in any way shape or form and the Rocketfish team seems to be MIA but for any of those people who have looked at this thread (roughly 230 people now) and have a similar issue and those who might have this issue at some point: I have found that when you press Caps Lock + Shift then type any random stuff (like asdf) bluetooth becomes enabled again and the whole thing works like a charm once again. I would try an Automator script for this but I don't know how to use Automator and I doubt that would work since Automator can't interact with hardware as far as my knowledge goes. TechWiz
Here's the copy of IOBluetoothFamily.kext that I have modified to allow the adapter to be properly recognized after Shift+Caps Lock have been pressed IOBluetoothFamily.kext.zip Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171080-rocketfish-bluetooth-issue/#findComment-1216496 Share on other sites
rphoto
Is this the model/combo you have? http://www.rocketfishproducts.com/products.../RF-BTCMBO.html Have you tried it with another bluetooth adapter? I have this same keyboard/mouse combo but I don't have the USB dongle anymore. I haven't bought one yet for my hackintosh rig, but I was going to this week. If you say this works, I'll forget about buying a new keyboard! I don't have my hackintosh anymore (got me a Macbook Pro) but if I remember correctly, my other bluetooth dongle worked to an extent after I modified the kexts to ensure that it was loading the kext for my device. I recommend giving it a try because the worse than can happen is that you spend about 2 dollars getting a bluetooth adapter and it turns out to not work. rphoto
Yup! I bought this Asus BT dongle on sale for $7 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...0-035-_-Product It works natively and links up super easy with the rocketfish keyboard and mouse (which i had gotten on sale for $30 a couple years back).
