namelessted
I built a new custom PC about 5 months back. I had Vista running on it and have been on Windows 7 since it became available and everything runs great. But I have really been wanting to give OS X a shot. I have barely used the OS because I refuse to pay $2000 for hardware that is worse than what I currently use. anyways, I have tried the iAtkos, Kalyway, and most recently the iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6. I figured i would have had the best luck with the newest iDeneb but I still can't get it to run. After the install completes it just goes into a boot loop. I have tried not customizing installation at all and have also tried different configurations of customizing but can't seem to get it right. here are my PC specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD5 CPU: Intel Core i7 920 RAM: 6GM Video: ATI Radeon HD4870 Audio: Integrate Realtek AC97 I have already tried going in to BIOS and only having 1 core enabled and disabled the hyperthreading. What is weird is that the computer boots fromt the disc with no problems and I am able to use the Disk Utility to format the hard drive into the correct format but once the installation finishes and it reboots it just loops and I can't figure out why. I would also try the new 10.6 beta that came out but there doesn't seem to be any way to install it to PCs yet. If anybody has any ideas of what I can try next it would be greatly appreciated and I will be willing to try it out as I do want to learn how to use OS X. whizkid515
You need either the Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernel (with busratio=20 as a darwin boot command) or the vanilla 10.5.7 kernel to run a Core i7. I know that iPC 10.5.6 (apply all the PPFs, you'll see on the site) has the Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernel. Install that and boot the darwin prompt as busratio=20 and then once you boot your computer, update to the 9.7.0 vanilla kernel. More info here. scott318
Just a quick question, if i may: I have a similar system to the one mentioned above (except based on Asus P6T Deluxe) and I was wondering: Which install is preferable/more compatible/more stable/overall better? iPC upgraded to 10.5.7 and latest vanilla kernel or the somewhat daunting Retail+boot132 method? I bought a retail disk to use for the latter, but as it is 10.5.6 the retail install will not work. Should I try to obtain a copy of iPC, or an older retail disk [image]? Thanks much! namelessted
thanks for the tips. I am getting a hold of the iPC with all 5 of the PPFs right now and will check it out sometime tomorrow most likely to see if I can get it working. Will post back with an update if a succeed or fail. namelessted
well, the iPC install disc won't even boot properly. It shows the initial loading screen then just reboots, i tried a few different things and it won't work. I am going to be back and try the iDeneb 1.4 again because i know that the Voodoo 9.5.0 was one of the options on that installation that I hadn't tried before so I am going to see if that works next. bigpoppa206
Why not get a boot cd and try the retail install? I have a Gigabyte board and they work great. There are a couple of Gigabyte threads that may not have the same exact hardware as you, but should help you out with BIOS settings and the proper kext installations. Here's the thread you should be following BTW: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=149505 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/170675-trying-to-install-os-x-to-high-end-pc-nothing-works/#findComment-1178806 Share on other sites
