Mac OSX Lion on Ultrabooks ?

The $999 MacBook Air only has 2GB of RAM and a 64GB SSD. The ASUS Zenbook UX21 has double of both for the same price.

I think Mac OS X is not build for me :(

A good place to start would be searching your computer model in the Google search box at the top of the page. I found a thread which linked to the following page: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...ortables#NC6400. This should point you in the right direction. If you need any help, you can PM me and I'll try to help you if you get stuck.

    Graphic card choice

The GMA 950 is the 945GSE graphics chip. 945GSE is the chipset in the computer, and the GMA 950 is the graphics card that goes along with that chipset.

    Acer D255 or Dell 1012

Neither of them will work because of the graphics card (NM10/HD). Get one with either a GMA 950/945GSE (they're the same thing) or NVIDIA Ion (must be Ion 1, not Ion 2). I'm not sure if any GMA 950 or Ion 1 netbooks are still being made, unfortunately. You can get these used or refurbished pretty cheaply, on eBay, Amazon, or Newegg.
  5. Yeah, I was leaning pretty far toward that. This computer will always have a soft spot in my heart for being my first hackintosh. Surprisingly, for just piddly stuff, it runs faster than my macbook, even when it's booted to a 1:1 copy of my macbook's partition. It's just not enough for flash and what my intended use for this computer was, Logic. For recording, it's fine, but when you start playing a lot of tracks and sequencing simultaneously, it can't keep up.
  6. I've been using a hackintosh as my primary computer for about a year and a half now, and ever since I did it the right way (Chameleon retail on EFI partition), it's been rock solid. The only thing I have an issue with is that flash seems to really slow down my computer. My specs are as follows: 2.6 Pentium 4 (non-SSE3), 1GB DDR400 RAM, and a GeForce 5200. I do not notice this flash slow down in Windows (XP and Vista) or Linux (Ubuntu 8.10-10.04). Since I don't have SSE3, the kernel I use has to emulate that, which could be giving a huge speed decrease. If I were to upgrade this computer (at this point, I could build a super fast computer for about $350), I'd only really consider doing either the processor, RAM, or video card. What would you, the insanelymac community, suggest I do? Upgrade one of those 3, or just build a new computer and put this one as a backup computer? Thanks for all of the help! whizkid515

How to upgrade from iPC 10.5.6 to 10.5.8?

Alright, so I got it installed. I had my iPC disc in, but I booted off the thumb drive's image, and it booted with the -f kernel flag. Now, I can only boot up with the -f kernel flag, and I have no graphics kext enabled, I can't mount a USB drive (even if it's plugged in before boot), and it will not shut down by itself. This almost seems like it's more trouble that it's worth.

How to upgrade from iPC 10.5.6 to 10.5.8?

I took the IOATAFamily kext right from my working hackintosh install. On boot, it gives me an error that it failed to load com.apple.iokit.IOATABlockStorage, as well as IOATABlockStorage is not compatible with its superclass, and that it couldn't alloc class "AppleATADiskDriver." I think I might just copy my entire /S/L/E to the /Extra/Extensions on my thumb drive (I know that's not really practical, but I don't think there's much of another option). Edit: I'm beginning to think it has something to do with my thumb drive, since hard drive wouldn't matter until I boot up after install (I probably should have clarified this before, sorry). My BIOS is set up weirdly in that the thumb drive is treated as a hard drive, and I have to select it as the first hard drive in the BIOS, or else it doesn't show up as a boot option. Maybe I should try installing Chameleon to a CD and then boot off the thumb drive from there? I'm completely lost here. Edit 2: I figured out it had to do with the EHCI driver. I copied the EHCI driver kext by Slice to my Extra folder on the thumb drive. I got it to boot, but it seemed to boot too quickly, and I get a pinwheel on boot, which never stops. This is out of verbose mode, so I'm not sure what's causing this.

How to upgrade from iPC 10.5.6 to 10.5.8?

I'm using this guide to install, and I have it up to trying to boot, and I get a still waiting for root device error. I'm have the IOATAFamily kext from my working install, and I have the optional kexts from Chameleon. Any ideas?
  10. I have a P4 Northwood i865 based machine, and I'm getting a still waiting for root device error. I currently have iPC installed, and I had never gotten this error before now. I put the IOATAFamily kext (from /S/L/E on a working install, along with IONetworkingFamily), along with all of the Optional kexts from Chameleon in the Extra folder on the usbboot partition. I'm using an IDE/PATA HD. Any ideas?

How to upgrade from iPC 10.5.6 to 10.5.8?

Ok, I've given up on updating, and my sleep suddenly stopped working. I'm looking into doing a boot-132 install. I'm using SlimbuildGUI to make a CD. I'll let you all know how it goes.
  12. I read the stickied post about safely upgrading, but that doesn't address what will happen with my extensions. I am currently running iPC 10.5.6, and my specs are: Pentium 4 2.6 Northwood, GeForce 5200FX AGP (using NVKush Complete package), and I think I'm using the i865 chipset. I currently have the VoodooUSBEHCI kext installed for sleep, and I have everything working perfectly, so I do not want to have to set everything up again. Would using the iDeneb combo Update do what I want, or would I go through nearly the same process except renaming the kernel and typing in mach_kernel.voodoo at boot. I have the voodoo 9.5.0 kernel installed with the 10.5.5 seatbelt kext, and Chameleon 2.0 Thanks in advance, whizkid515

    HP dv6110us Install

Okay! I am happy to report that I have a HackBook! I'm using Leo4allv4.1 with 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel, currently. I have a dv2120us, which is essentially the same computer in this guide, except I have more L2 cache in my processor and I have a 14 inch screen. Used this guide, and it works amazingly! THANK YOU!!! Also, anyone have ideas on why iPC 10.5.6 was giving me issues? I don't think FireWire caused all these problems for me. (iPC doesn't have a Remove Firewire option)

Also, sorry for the triple posts, but edit wasn't working.

Oh, and iPC 10.5.6 is with the Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernel (10.5.5, with seatbelt.kext)
