Edwin7
I too am looking for this. My method of install is iPC 10.5.6, update to 10.5.7 then install ATI_INIT and QE_CI_Exotic_Cards and reboot. EVERYTHING works great until I turn on my second monitor (HDTV on DVI), computer restarts, and just gets stuck at blue screen on start up. I restart with only my primary monitor on and I get the famous mouse lag thereafter. Will appreciate any workaround, thank you! gorg
If anyone knows how to get dual monitors working on 4890 please let me know ive been trying to figure it out for hours. That would be cool. I am looking to upgrading my ATI 3870x2 to a 4890 these days, so it would be interesting to know how it works in 10.5.7 (dual DVI monitor support, QE, rotation, sleep/wake issues, mouse issues etc) and any clues whether it will be fully supported (e.g. OpenCL) in Snow Leopard. Edwin7
Ok, I cant seem to get rid of the mouse lag no matter what I do, so now I have 2 problems. I'm not sure what I did the first time as my previous post, but somehow I get mouse lag not matter what way I install it. Anyone have a step by step on what they did for the 4890? From beginning to end such as install 10.5.6, update to 10.5.7 and then.... install [bLANK] then restart and run [bLANK] etc? Greatly appreciate any help! TeraHz
I have XFX 4890 on its way to me. When it arrives (hopefully this Friday) I will try anything I find online (injectors, mac roms etc) to get both DVIs working and report here. BTW. I'll be doing that on a hackintosh, not macpro. marliwahoo
I have a different video card but a similar problem because osx sets the default refresh rate @48mhz and the monitors won't work. I don't know if this will work for you or not. If not, sorry to waste your time 1. Start up with one monitor set system preferences/sharing/Remote Management to on. Set up the options. 2. Now got to system prefs/display setings and leave that window open. Do not turn off system. 3. Plug in second monitor. If both monitors work - great. 4. If only only the first monitor works select detect displays & gather windows and set up your dual displays. 5. If both monitors are off - use a second macintosh and use remote management to repeat step 4. 6. Preferences for displays are stored in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist Here is mine for dual 1280/1024 @60. I just drop it into all new installs and on install dvds. It just MAY get you started and then you can adjust from there. com.apple.windowserver.plist.zip Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/170221-4890-dual-monitors/#findComment-1191261 Share on other sites
TeraHz
OK, first report on xfx 4890: Just finished installing vanilla 10.5.7 + natit + custom x2000.kext and so far I get only one DVI working. I'll do some research this weekend and try some other options. If anyone has suggestions on what to try, keep em comming. TeraHz
I've tried using the 10.5.6 modules + accel + ATI init and same result. I guess no luck with the card... at this point I am thinking of either returning it for a xfx 4870 that is confirmed to work, or wait few months for snow leopard. TeraHz
Good news, as netkas was saying the 4890 dual dvi works under SL with hardware acceleration without any issues. Confirmed it yesterday.
