Fresh install of iDeneb 10.5.4 using the iDeneb upgrade package to 10.5.7 and I'm using the voodoo kernel and just a few kexts for peripherals. I installed the upgrade package and when I boot OS X, it just hangs and never reaches "Jettisoning Kernel Linker" in verbose boot and freezes just after it detects firewire and sets the speed.

I don't get a "Still waiting for root device" error either.

I CAN boot into Single User mode.

I'm not sure what to do.

i have the EXACT problem with 10.5.5 -> 10.5.7 update using the ideneb combo kit

i spent about 3 hours playing around with kexts last night and ended up just reinstalling :P (my backup didnt work)

if anyone can solve this issue that'd be awesome because i'd love to install safari 4

I am running:

Asus p5k-e/wifi-ap

Q6600 Core2Quad

please help !

I didn't start with iDeneb 10.5.4, I was using iPC 10.5.5. I had the same problem, anytime I tried updating it would hose the install. Unlike you though, I wasn't able to even get into safe mode. I did eventually manage to get it however, after I don't know how many attempts.

I started with an iPC install, not iDeneb, so what worked for me may not work for you. I ended up downloading the official combo update from Apple and followed the steps mentioned here to install it :

I let the update complete, and restarted. Of course the laptop refused to boot up, just kept restarting actually. I popped in the iPC install disc, started to go through the whole setup thing again from scratch, and then I thought of something that I hadn't tried before. I went through to the Customize screen, the step right before it begins the install. I unchecked the full System setup section, then just went in and checked the items in the Drivers section that I normally chose during a regular install. It began copying files to the hard drive, only taking a couple of minutes compared to the regular +30 minute install (since I hadn't selected anything other than the few drivers). I rebooted with the -f option when it was done, and after a few minutes, I found myself sitting at the Desktop!

Like I said, this may not work for you, since I don't have an iDeneb install disc and don't know what options are available with it. Can't hurt to try, since you said you reinstalled anyway.

I woul like to say, entirely exactly what you did was the same thing I did with iAtkos 5i install, after upgrading to 10.5.7 USING the regular Update from *Software Update* from apple... afterwards I popped in my install osx86 chose the same Settings through Customize as for my 10.5.5 install (ofcourse UnChecked Full System Set Up) and it works perfectly fine after restart 10.5.7

=)
