Hello,

I am trying to install iPC X-DL 10.5.6 on my Dell Inspiron 1420n. It's the dual-layer LiveDVD version. I used gparted to completely wipe my HD so I'm starting fresh.

Getting to the prompt to select f8 is a feat in itself - it takes 2-3 boots to load the CD. Upon failing it just hangs (I've let it sit for 30+ minutes).

Beyond that, no matter which option I select I get a kernel panic. Default, -k, -x, -s, -f, etc. I even get a kernel panic trying to load the LiveDVD to ram.

Any help or any pointers in the right direction will be very, very appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I tried the vanilla boot options and it got a little further - no kernel panic, but it led me to an image of the shutdown button with text telling me I needed to restart my computer.

What are some other boot options I can try? Can someone link me a list of various boot options?

Thanks!

Hey I have the same problem with my Dell 1420. What are the other vanilla boot options you have tried. can you please mention?

Thanks

I have been trying to figure out why i could not get iatkos, kalyway, ipc on my dell for about 6 month now and i finally found the answer yesterday here and figure out my problem http://uphuck.ggrn.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4145

in iatkos v7 i have to boot with toh -v in order to install find out what kernels are offered and use it

I found that toh works great on my dells. Give it a look.

ex toh -v and any other flag you may need to use at the time.

in ideneb 10.5.7 he states that you have to for example flag and the kernal such as 970 -v.

some others that worked was mach_970 or mach_toh etc

It all boils down reading in the information provided by the distro. Hope this helps everyone
