Justlurkin
Thanks in advance for your time and help! I have the iPC 10.5.6 X-DL LiveDVD, which I believe is the Universal 10.5.6 PPF5 final release. I can run OSX off the LiveCD using the config=live.plist command at the DVD bootup menu, and it boots just fine into the OSX desktop where I can run things like the Disk Utility and such off the LiveDVD. But when I try to install OSX86 onto my hard disk, it wouldn't work.... It would complete the install and give me the Installation Successful green check. And after rebooting, it would just give me a black screen with the mouse pointer (which I can move but can't do anything else). My system config: Intel DP35DP motherboard (I know, it's one of the harder boards to get OSX86 to work on), Core 2 Duo E8400 Sapphire ATI Radeon HD3870 500GB Seagate SATA drive Sony Optiarc SATA DVD reader drive Logitech USB keyboard and mouse (From reading others' experiences with the DP35DP, I know I have to set the drives to AHCI in BIOS, and use the Chameleon boot loader since the PC-EFI boot loaders don't seem to work.) The items to be installed that I checked off in Customization: - iPC OSX86 10.5.6 Base System - ATI HD3800 Series (Intel) video driver - Intel 82566MM/DC ethernet driver - Chameleon with SMBIOS/DSDT bootloader. Can anyone shed some light why the iPC 10.5.6 X-DL LiveDVD can boot off the DVD into OSX just fine on my config but the hard disk install cannot? Is there any way I can install the iPC 10.5.6 onto my HDD with a the same configuration as the LiveDVD so I can at least boot into the desktop? Thanks for any help! cogombo
The Install DVD works because it has a "generic gfx driver" (no performance but quite compatible). Try uninstalling the video kext that you installed with the distro and searching a good kext for your gfx card in the forum. I have obtained the best performance simply installing iPC without any driver, and post-installing them looking for the best solution. Khan_Man
Ya, I bet there is something wrong with video driver. Go generic and play with drivers after U get a desktop. My 2 scents. Justlurkin
Thanks for the fast reply! I wiped out my HDD and tried a clean install, this time with just the iPC 10.5.6 base system and the Chameleon Boot Loader, no drivers of any kind.. Got the Installation Successful green check, reboot, and this time it gave me a screen with garbage patterns. I did notice that the LiveDVD and the OSX Installer were all running at 1024x768.. Maybe my monitor's native resolution (2560x1600) was too high for the generic driver to handle. I guess I'll try the F8 options in Chameleon to force it to a lower resolution and see if it works. If not I guess I'll have to look for another distro. Crossing my fingers! EDITED TO ADD: I'm beginning to think it's my resolution.. I looked over at the compatibility lists her at InsanelyMac and it says my Sapphire HD3870 works with the natit driver, but only up to 1920x1200 resolution. Oh well I guess I can't fully utilize my 30" 2560x1600 monitor then! Drats. Now I have to figure a way to force my install to boot at 1920x1200.. Justlurkin
UPDATE: Success! I hooked up a smaller 15-inch LCD (1024x768) that I had on hand to my HD3870, and now I can get into the desktop. Then I re-connected my 30-inch monitor, and the 2560x1600 display was automatically detected. Now I'm using it at its full 2560x1600 glory! Thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction. I'm running it on a clean install with the iPC 10.5.6 Base System, the Natit video driver, the Intel 82566MM network driver, and the Chameleon Bootloader with SMBIOS/DSDT. I'm going to go back and do some reinstalls to try to get the sound and other things to work. Thanks again for all your help! I am finally in OSX86 Nirvana. crashnburn_in
Which PCIe / PCI Express / PCI X card (s) have driver support for 2560 x 1600 resolution on a Leopard or Snow Leopard? It could be any brand. NVidia, ATI or other. Preferably it can fit an Advanced Dock for T61. As I understand it, I will need a full-height, half-length PCIe video card. Please advise. Thanks.
