izapp
Hello, As I said , I'm new to OSx86. I have been a Mac user for 4 years now but in the same time a Pc user. I'm completely OVER windows and I want to install Mac OS on my computer. I found some other topics on the internet about the hardware I got, but most of them don't provide all the help I need. I will start from describing my computer's hardware, 1. Hardware Compatibility ? CPU : INTEL CORE 2 QUAD CORE Q9650 3.00 GHZ LGA775 Ram : OCZ DDR3 3x 2GB 1332 (I think) Hz Motherboard : Asus Rampage II Extreme Motherboard Graphics : Nvidia 9800 GX2 Are there any drivers for these parts? I want to know if there's a way to use this hardware on OSx86. If the ethernet and sound doesn't work ,is isn't a problem because I found external ones. If the specific rams don't work and all the other hardware does , I will change them. 2. Leopard's Performance and Stability ? Because I was a 4-year Macbook user , I want to take Mac OS to the next level. I got 2 screens with 2560x1600 resolution and I want to use them on Mac OS which when I connect them on the Macbook pro, It gets too hot. So I want a powerful Mac OSX based computer. Long story short, I want to know whether Leopard operating with hackintosh is stable enough and if with the hardware I got (but of course If I get it working with this hardware) will have a great peformance ? 3. Which one : Kalyway ? iAtkos ? iDened ? Other ? I've seen all these versions of OSx86 on the internet, but which one is the best for a user that wants stability and performance together? (I don't mind the size of each one, I only care of the stability) What features do these versions give? I'm a bid confused 4. Can I update? When and if I finish all the above, will I be able to update like a normal mac does? Or is there at least a way of updating? I would appreciate any help , Thanks for your help and time, Luke Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/168180-new-to-osx86-is-my-hardware-compatible/ Share on other sites
Gujal
1. Core2Quad (LGA775) cannot be installed on Asus Rampage II Extreme Motherboard (LGA1366). Memory is generally not a issue. Hoever the amount of memory is sometimes an issue under OSX with JMicron Controller which is used on the motherboard, >3GB can cause panics The Motherboard has ICH10R which is supported natively by 10.5.7 in AHCI mode There is 3rd party kext to support onboard Attansic Ethernet There is patched AppleHDA Kext to support ADI2000 audio controller 2. It is stable as long as 3rd party unstable kexts are not used. I have mine running for 15 months without any issues. People have used with 4 monitors on a hackintosh, so your two monitors shouldn't be a problem 3. For your setup, RETAIL is the best. stay away from the hacked distros. There are detailed posts explaining how to install Retail Leopard DVD using DFE's Boot-132 CD and use Munky's method of installing hackintosh modifications on a separate hidden EFI partition 4. If you do the Retail Install, and installed the hackintosh modification on the hidden EFI Partition (Munky's method), then yes you can update like a normal mac. izapp
Thank you very much for your reply , Gujal. So on the forum the tutorial you recommend is this? And where can I find those drovers you just recommended? About the motherboard, it's my bad. Its the rampage Quad version but can't remember the name of it. Lastly, What about the graphics card? Can I make it work? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/168180-new-to-osx86-is-my-hardware-compatible/#findComment-1164866 Share on other sites
