Hi there.

I use iPC 10.5.6 and since I would like to update to 10.5.7 I thought it would be a good Idea to load my additional/patched Kexts from Chameleons /Extra/Extensions folder.

How do I do that?

It just doesn't work if I just move my Kexts over to that folder... Do I have to tell Chameleon somehow which Kexts to load?

Can someone tell me how to do that?

You have to copy the not vanilla kext from the /S/L/E folder, like you want. But, you have to be sure that those kexts are replaced by the vanilla ones. You have to use at least the combo updater, and maybe do some manual corrections, because which ones are modified?.

On the voodoo forum there is more information about Chameleon > http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php#1

Some advise, first save/duplicate the extensions folder then do a combo update -> 10.5.7 ( not using the software update, download the combo ). Look at the difference of both folders and look at the install log where the lines says that kexts are not replaced because of 'newer' ones. Those could be changed too. Use those ones using your own judgement and info found here and there to place them in the chameleon folder.

There should however be only a few of them added to the Chameleon../Extra/Extensions folder. Be careful to replace the Chameleon installed ones.

Also read the Chameleon stickies and discussions about the com.apple.boot.plist. MODIFY the one in the extra folder and Not on the Vanilla /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist . Keep that one clean, look again at the Chameleon forum.

Good Luck

Thanks. I just updated. Most stuff works...

I just backed up all kexts and the Vodoo-Kernel and copied the additional Drivers and patched kexts to /Extra/Extensions.

Then I updated with the Combo-Update. Replaced the kexts and the kernel and then rebooted.

The only thing that didn't work was USB. I replaced the new IOUSBFamily.kext and IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext with the backed up ones, and then it all seemed to work.

Now the only Problem lef is, that I can't connect my iPhone and iPod anymore. The iPod gets mounted to the Desktop as normal, but iTunes gives an error message that I should reconnect it and if it oesn't work then reinstall from System-DVD...

Hm, nevermnind... While I was typing this, I reconnected both devices to my Hackintosh. Now they work fine... Strange, I didn't do anything.

Well, thanks for the infos, I thought I had to do something else than just put the kexts in the /Extra-Folder...

Now my 10.5.7 seems to work very well, but I don't see any advantages to 10.5.6, it worked before, it worked after, well at least I have an up-to-date-system now...
