I've been reading the various success/failure stories about updating to 10.5.7 and am trying to determine whether the level of success or failure is based on system hardware config or on the distro/kernel that people are using.

Any thoughts?

Installed the latest iPC 10.5.6 DVD on GA-EP43-DS3L + GeForce 8400 GS . Had huge problems with blue screen. After many hopeless googled hours and numerous (grin!) reboots starring at a sky blue screen..

one day started with -x [ie safe mode], repaired permissions and lo an behold I got the galaxy booted up. |o|

Then went to Apple-update and updated (in a 3ple reboot) to 10.5.7. Then the blue screen started all over again...

boot with -x, repair permissions, and blue screen: Everytime when I touch the System Preferences > Display to fiddle with the screen resolution I get punished with a blue screen even before changing anything. The display settings seemed to be a Mine!

Switched to DVi from my good ol analog 1400x900 test monitor, and crystal clear, full screen resolution appeared. Now I have the full 1920x1200 pixels in crystal dvi colors...

write this post it, and will try to open display again to check my resolution...

The blue screen was from the low resolution analog monitor. After plugin in the crisp 1920x1200 DVI monitor I needed sunglasses in order not to get dizzy! It was so crystal clear... no more blue screens.

Hint: Test on DVI large monitors! Avoid old analog low resiolution LCDs.
