tweetatoo
Acronis Disk Director Suite should be able to partition. The probable cause of partitioning failure is having four primary partitions. Notice that you can partition your hard drive to up to four primary partitions or three primary and one extended partition. It is impossible to add a fifth primary partition. A solution to this is to backup the contents of one of the hard drives to another one, and use it for Mac. But be informed that only up to four primary partitions is allowed, and Mac uses a primary one to load. Partition C is where my system is installed(windows XP) and D holds my HP recovery(needed for whenever i do a system recovery). What other causes could be causing this? THANX GPARTED it comes as a LIVE DVD I have tried this but it doesn't work. When trying to find the problem i went to the website(http://gparted.sourceforge.net/) and i read that there is a bug that makes the software have problems with some types of HP PAVILION computers. IT so happens that my computer(HP PAVILION a518x) doesnt work with this software. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS THANX Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/167340-what-to-use-to-partition-my-hard-drive/#findComment-1162069 Share on other sites
SMCentral
I am not running windows vista but xp. i dont know is this is true but i heard that u cant dual boot or multi boot using osx86 and windows xp. IS THIS TRUETHANX Relax dude, you can dual boot with XP and OS X. You should really spend more time in the wiki, it will answer for many questions (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page); such as installation guides for dual booting with XP and OS X (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Installation_Guides). What other causes could be causing this?THANX Do you have any Windows Vista Installation DVD? I will show you how to do this in a very simple way 1- Boot the Vista DVD (notice that XP cannot shrink volumes). 2- Choose Repair Computer from one of the Windows that load upon booting (appears as a link). 3- Choose next. 4- Choose Command Prompt from the Window that appears next. 5- Type: "diskpart", and press enter. 6- Write the following codes: (these codes will shrink your "D" drive and create a new partition) select disk 0select partition 2 (assuming that partition 1 is the "C:" and not a recovery partition) shrink desired=30000 (this will shrink 30 GB from the drive) create partition primary (this creates a new partition with all the shrinked and non-partitioned data) exit exit 7- reboot your computer Enjoy! Let me know about encountered problems. IS THIS TRUETHANX Not at all. But if you want to make Windows XP boot loader to be the major, you have to add the chain0 file so that OSx86 can appear in the boot menu of Windows XP. The internet contains many guides for dual booting with XP. Since you don't have the installer DVD of vista, try to download the latest version of "Acronis Disk Director Suite", as it may be able to partition. Google it. Mention problems met. I got it working. For some reason i could partition my hard drive when i booted into windows and ran the application. But i remembered that acronis disk director suite came with a boot cd. the boot cd allows me to run the program from the cd(leaving the hard drive alone). I now have a partition to install osx86. THANX TO ALL THAT HELPED Relax dude, you can dual boot with XP and OS X. You should really spend more time in the wiki, it will answer for many questions (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page); such as installation guides for dual booting with XP and OS X (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Installation_Guides). The guide is in there. although that is true. asking you guys these questions will help me be familiar with this website. being new to the world of osx86 is a little intimidating. the benefit of asking the questions here is that people can give me tips on not only how to dual or multi boot but also give me tips on how to do i as best as possible. I dont understand why you couldn't just give me the answer(if u knew it) instead of telling me where i could find it. THERE IS NO NEED TO MAKE THIS PROCESS MORE PAINFUL THEN IT ALREADY IS Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/167340-what-to-use-to-partition-my-hard-drive/#findComment-1162149 Share on other sites
