swirling_vortex
I have an iDeneb 10.5.6 DVD that won't install on my Travelmate 8210. I know the DVD works because I've installed it on a different machine with no problems. On my laptop, it panics at this module dependency: com.apple.driver.AppleIntel8254XEthernet(2.0.2a2) Obviously there's more code, but I didn't copy it all. The network card in my laptop is a Intel PRO/1000 PM gigabit eithernet card and my guess is that this driver isn't compatible with it (or it's broken). Is there a way to prevent that module from loading or should I try another DVD? swirling_vortex
Unfortunately, the laptop BIOS is quite limited in what you can do with it. There's no option to disable the ethernet card. I also checked the HCL and the PRO/1000 isn't listed, only the PRO/100 is supported. What I suspect is happening is that Apple is planning to support those gigabit eithernet cards, but they did a crappy job with that driver and as a result, it fails because it's either missing components or it's not finished. To verify this, I also tried a Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD and got the same result. Since I can't disable the eithernet card, how about using a 10.4.x DVD? Perhaps that may not have that driver put in yet. Otherwise, I have to wait until a 10.6 build is released.
