pirloui
I'm going to sell my G5 hack to exchange it with a more compact tower. The sad state of things is that except for Lian Li, I see no quality ATX cases. (yes that includes high end Antec etc) The choice is even more reduced when compact is in the picture. Not much more than 100€ is also in the picture. 1 optical drive, 2 HDs, mATX mobo and standard ps2 psu would be enough. Lian Li has the PC-V351; a cubish case of 279x262x373mm. It's pretty OK, but cubish shapes aren't the most practical. Obviously a tower has the smallest footprint. Also, it's just not that compact. Lian Li also have the PC-A05N, a nice "mini" tower, with the PSU cleverly placed in the front. PSU in front is good for reducing height, either it's ATX or mATX. However, at 210x381x490 it's really not very mini, just lower than the G5. Anyone have an idea? DatenDennis
Try to build a MiniHac based on MiniITX, stuff it in a Lian Li Q7, abd there you go. if you like the V351, try to buy a V350, its much cleaner on the Front, no Holes in it The A5 sports FullATX, and its Much Smaller than the G5 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/167128-high-quality-compact-case/#findComment-1161411 Share on other sites
pirloui
The Q7 is very sweet, but I doubt I could fit a Q6600 and the 9800GT video card in there But it would be very nice. A5 is the most realistic.. It's just that it's as long and as wide as the G5, frustrating Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/167128-high-quality-compact-case/#findComment-1162116 Share on other sites
pirloui
The Silverstone Sugo SG04 looks pretty nice; very compact, aluminium; takes full size components and has handy access to hard drives. It's almost half the volume of the Lian Li PC-A05. pirloui
I ended going with the SG03. It's less pretty than the SG04, but it's all aluminium (lighter) and was available. I'll come back with some observations once tested. EDIT: I got it today. It's very light, which is good, but almost too much. The aluminium feels a bit flimsy, particularly on the back because of all the vents. The conception is smart, but it doesn't have €100 build quality. Besides, there was a nice bump on the top. So mixed feelings. On a positive tone, the hard drives are very cool, I have two 120mm fans on the front, and the drives are about 5°C above ambiant.
